That too much compression you got going on here got nothing to do with good / bad monitors, you will hear that on any system and headphones.
Sorry to say, its a nice tune maybe, I just cant listen to it for longer than a minute before I get ear fatigue of hell.

Well the thing is, is that I never applied a compressor to anything. So maybe the fact that I dont have one applied... it may be causing the problem. Or perhaps another plugin I have running like Soundgoodizer may be the problem. Guess I will have to fiddle around with some settings and see what happens.

Soundgoodizer is a sort of multiband-compressor / limiter and a limited version of maximus with only 4 presets. It might sound good to you in the first place, but to me it ruins more of the actual sound.
In certain parts you can hear how the break-fx, to introduce another part, is letting the music pump way too much. I would recommend to get rid off the that plugin and re-adjust some channel volumnes and if you want a sort of "mastering" on your track, rather track a combination of a some light EQ, compression and a limiter that works more transparent.

Serious?
The whole tune is.
Just listen to the mainpart, how the strings are fighting for space as everything gets ducked by the kick.
I missed any new producing tricks or trends that this is common?
