I have a pair of Sony MDR-7506 and the only place that I wear them that could be considered "public" is on airplanes.

Frankly, I always found folks who wore little white ear buds to be the bigger douches. Nothing was a bigger status symbol than letting others know that you had an iPod. So what if the sound was comparatively crap? I got an iPod!
