Sometimes I see dj's/producers with like 5 of their own tracks in their respective charts (beatport, etc.).
Whack or ok?

Agreed. But, charting more than one or two makes you lose any credibility.

As a non-dj looking for new music it's an easy way to sift through all the releases out there and find a gem or two.
I'm sure DJ charts are all about politics and horse trading though. 'I'll put one of yours up if you do the same for me' or outright payola like the radio business.

Its fine with me as long as its not every song. Charts are purely political in nature. People should know that. So even tracks that arent theirs are in there for a reason.

there would be something wrong if they didn't like what they were producing...
I don't see anything wrong with that!
but more than 2 out of ten does seem like shameless self promotion

well aren't charts supposed to represent the songs the dj is playing out most often? i'd imagine if someone produced his own songs or had his own label he would be pimping those songs out more then any others ... and the chart would thus be an accurate reflection of songs that he is playing ... which is what the chart is supposed to be about is it not lol!?
so no it is not really wack.
