Vinyls and Ableton

Hiellou,

well basicly im wondering if the mixing with ableton is good. Now that might seem like a very stupid question, or at least the way i put it there. What im saying is this: more and more djs are making there mixs with leptops and ableton(like pvd for example),but i have never heard a better set than pvd live at Mayday 2002 and that one he did completely without the leptops thingie. And i do a lot of listening. So although you can mix with a click or whatever(i never mixd with ableton, so do excuse my ..ignorance here),do you think theres something that goes missing when a 'real' mix is not being made anymore?Take his set at Space for example for the 10 years vandit stuff(sorry that im always using pvd for my examples, but i am a fan),its a good set but...it still cant get even near to mayday 2002....so what are your thoughts on this?

yes u can dj on ableton, sasha does it well. the only problem imo is that u need to prepare the songs first and it takes a while. the positive thing is that once songs are prepared you dont need to think about beatsyncing anymore and can therefore focus on efex, builds etc. there are a couple of more software/laptop based solutions out there like Serato Scratch and NI Traktor which does not require the same amount of preparation but still have great sync functions. still i like oldschool cdj. its more instant and better interaction with crowd somehow.

Funny seeing that sentence. I think we'll see that popping up more and more in the coming years. An obvious statement perhaps but it's just interesting to see how some people are already referring to cd's as old school.

Sasha's 2010 rider actually specifies CDJ-2000's now. He's pretty much awesome on anything, of course.
