Calling Toronto Area DJs

The Toronto Collective is a group of aspiring DJs who are being supported by The AudioAcademy.fm in an effort to help define their careers.

Currently, the AudioAcademy.fm is trying to identify promising DJs in the GTA that we feel deserve an opportunity to share the stage with the best DJs in the world.

In addition to an opportunity to DJ live with some of the biggest acts in the world, members of the Collective are given:

1. Tour support
2. Branding and image consulting
3. SEO and web development services
4. Exclusive tracks to remix
5. Top photographers, videographers and bloggers chronicling
your actions and activities
6. Assistance in sourcing government grants.

Keep your money in your pocket because your only cost is your blood, sweat and tears.

If you’re ready to take your career to the next level and you’re prepared to do whatever it takes to get there, drop us a line with samples of your original productions, at least one 30 minute mix, and links to all your social media (Facebook account, MySpace, Twitter, personal website, etc): [email protected]

Avoid this guy at all costs. For those wondering this is setup by Alen Bubich, better known to most as the loser from Keys to the VIP.

Alen seems to think that he can get rich by getting aspiring DJs and Producers to sell tickets. The catch to him "bringing you to fame" is you have to fill clubs for him. If you sell more tickets than anyone else, he'll let you open for free. Yeah, you heard me - you can play a set at 9pm in front of nobody, for FREE at a shit club like Revival, IF you sell enough tickets.

Bubich doesn't give a shit if you know how to mix or can even produce, as long as you can tell sell tickets he will say he can make you a star. Oh yeah, he also doesn't accept females because they don't sell. Further to this Bubich expects you to make him tracks for free, whatever genre he tells you.

This is all a bunch of bullshit I assume most will know better once they get his "selling speech" but I thought I would give fair warning. This guy is a 40 year old jaded loser with nothing on the go thats why he's trying to exploit young artists.

Bubich will act like he has your best interest in mind but bear in mind Bubich knows nothing about the scene and doesn't give a shit whether or not you succeed, he will pretend to act like your manager but just wants to make a buck off you. If you aren't selling tickets you're worthless to him. You don't even have to know how to mix to join his "crew".

Save yourselves the embarrassment, you've been warned.

yes this thread is golden, i knew it had potential.

ALEN – “THE ULTIMATE PLAYER”

My take: Meeting Alen was like opening up a can of every player stereotype known to man. He was classy and cool, gracious even, as we sat in a cigarette-burnt booth in a club that was probably never meant to be seen by day. But his smile was guarded and he plucked his words carefully. I couldn’t blame him — during our last interview I had called him out for what I perceived as a phone pickup attempt, something he’s denied.

Fortunately, his indifferent demeanour faded away as our chat carried on, and he let a bit of the fun-loving guy through. There was one point when I had to turn my recorder off so he could tell me the story of a random girl’s best pickup attempt on him. I agree with his assessment, it’s not fit for print.

On being a player: “The purpose of being a player is to acquire and maintain a meaningful relationship with another human being,” Alen counters. “I’m sure other people have other impressions of what a player is. For me, having sex with a woman is not the ultimate goal. Obviously it’s nice to have, but the more successful players are the ones that any woman can look at and say, ‘That’s the one I want to be with.’ Sexuality is a natural consequence of that.

Advice for aspiring gamers: According to Alen, having looks or cash is completely separate from having game. “That doesn’t make you desirable,” he says. “Confidence is the sexiest attribute any man – or woman – can have. A natural human response is to want what we can’t have.

Technique 101: As human beings, we want what we can’t have. “Playing hard-to-get is always a fantastic technique,” reveals Alen. “You need to make it playful enough so it’s known you’re available, but you have to do it in a way to make the person know you’re not available to them.”

Yes, I am bitter

Yes it is Alen from Keys to the VIP. Yes, I am jaded and bitter. Yes, you will need to demonstrate your commercial appeal.

Clearly the AudioAcademy is not for everyone. However, within our first two months of operation members of the Toronto Collective have:

1. Opened for Hatiras
2. Opened for the legendary John Acquaviva
3. Will open for Richard Vission (November 17th)
4. Opened for Deadmau5 at Homecoming in London
5. Have secured an opening set at the BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen (Sander Kleinenberg, Steve Lawler, Steve Angello, Dubfire, Victor Calderone, +++)
6. Have secured an opening set at the Om Records party at the WMC (Groove Armada, People Under The Stairs, Miguel Migs, Mark Farina,+++)
7. Have put out offical remixes for: What She Said, We Are The, The Girls Can Hear Us
8. Have received personalized peer reviews from Ryan Wilock (The Angry Kids), Grahamzilla (Thunderheist), Christian Anderson (XI)

In addition members meet once a week and receive production support from 15 other members of the Collective.

We are a group that is dedicated to commercial success. Needless to say, this does not appeal to everybody.

However, if this sounds like it makes sense for you personally, please drop us a line.

[/QUOTE]Save yourselves the embarrassment, you've been warned./QUOTE]

This is the entertainment industry. If you can't make it you'll burn out spending 10 minutes creating a 'fcktheacademy account' and pouring your heart out over an anonymous rant-reply. Bottom line, this hater can't make the cut.

Listen to me: I opened up last week for deadmau5 at London homecomeing because of Alen. He hooked me up with JLR and we spend a week creating the most opener-friendly setlist I've ever heard. I also interviewed Lee Mortimer and chilled out with Hatiras last month at Revival, where we play our monthly shows. I've met 30 DJs since I decided I'd take a sharp career turn and get back into making/playing music.

If you want to work for it, drop a line. There are people who are just as hungry as you to make it happen - I'm one of them.

Just because you're too "hungry" to realize you're a bitch with no artistic integrity who would have just as easily sucked Alen's dick for that opening slot, doesn't change the fact that you're a bitch.

That being said, I encourage all those who feel this is a good model for commercial success to get in touch and wish you luck.
