that is the first time i've seen squid in wonton soup.

squid is one of those foods that can be scary because if it isn't cooked properly it can be the most repulsive piece of rubber that you ever put into your mouth.

if cooked properly it can be one of the most tender and tasty seafoods out there. 2 ways to do it:

fast at high heat

slow at very low heat.

any mistake and you are eating a dog chew toy.

Squid like that is quite common in Chinese food.
There are a lot more things that would repulse non-Chinese in Chinese style soup. Like, i'd imagine, pig's intestine.

i think the most disgusting seafood i had in asia was cuttlefish.

i can only describe it as eating a row of christmas tree lights.

Squid is one of my favorite, again, when cooked properly.
I recently happen to walk into a Vietnamese store and they had dry squid. Reminded me of beef jerky but full squid flavor.

indeed it is.

it is just too bad most places get it completely wrong making many think that this is the way the dish is supposed to taste and giving squid a bad name.

I heard letting squid soak in milk for a while before cooking helps tremendously btw.

Yes it does. I worked at a restaurant where they did just that.

The fatty acids serve as a lotion to soften the outer layer of the squid's skin.

i buy squid ink for pasta all of the time.

it tastes really good if you know how to use it...just don't wear white when cooking with it.

this lunch lady at this school in korea at worked at would serve it to me and watch me eat it. While the chili sauce it came in was delicious...i would spend 2 hours chewing a bite while making the "thumbs up, so good" sign because she scared me
