( First Time Poster) one year producing, remix for Aeron Aether Contest pls

Whats up trance addict people. Found the forum by a google search, looked like people actually left feedback so if I could even get one response I'd be stoked.
Quick about me
-producing one year
-music sucked for 99% of it
- its finally " decent sounding"
- Figured it time for feedback.

the only way ill ever produce top notch stuff is by effing up a bunch, which is why feedback is so helpful. I have 0 music background, and don't know theory, just produce from years of listeing to trance.

Anyways heres the track via sound cloud, a remix for the Aeron Aether " Twilight Contest" which I check out the fourm rules and it seemed cool to post this.

remember its only been a year, so its not " top notch" sounding yet. ohh yea and this was my first time using vocals....so do they sound right? I spend many many hours banging my head trying to get em right.

Good morning Archdook!

The vocals are out of phase if you ask me, either that or I havent had my morningcoffee yet. I would have put it something like this HERE .

And best of luck to you, you got one hell of a journey in front of you if you just started.

Thanks man thats the kind of advice I was looking for. I just googled " out of phase" with out much luck so I have no idea what that means :?. If you could clarify that would be kickass.

The vocal snip-it was stelar, the production was so tight and clear, love it.

Anyways yea Ive only been at this about a year, and have only made a few " songs" that sound like songs. Cheers

Edit : ok more googling found that out of phase means out of sync? which is most likely so. is there a website that give a play by play of how to make vocals mesh, i spent maybe 5 hours trying to sync em but nadda

Hello again!

Sorry for my bad clarification, I meant that it is not following the tempo of the track accordingly, hope that clears things up.. also, there are a lot of ways of getting the vocals into the track, my little snippet was just an example to give you an idea, good luck!

Loving your sound. Where did you get the acapella? How did you learn so quickly in a year?

yea thats what I was worried about, thanks man ! I have a hard time telling when vocals are off unless its real bad. Hopefully my ears get better adjusted and learn how to fit them perfectly. Did it follow the chord progression ok? or was that off too. Sorry for the newb questions.

Thanks man its getting there. The acapella was from the Aeron Aether "twilight " contest which is now over. They gave you that, along with some samples of various stuff....which I don't think I even used any of the sample, just a few of the midis.

I learned in a year by about 8 hours a day in front of my computer, making about 15 " songs" that ranged from HORRID, to so bad I cry. It was a long road man. I listen to a LOT and lot of electronic music. It come to the point now where I can here the song, and envsion in my head how they got those sounds etc. This has only happend in the last month, and everything is slowly clicking. This was my first real go at vocals, so it was hard for me. Hence why there off.

It needs more volume.

OK I suck at sarcastic comments but seriously. I can't be serious with this track unless you're serious about the volume.

Too loud. It's easy to get carried away with mastering, why I continue to advise people don't do it. In Ozone there'll be a Loudness Maximiser module that you would've activated. While putting your mix through Ozone, take the Margin (dB) and bring it down to the same level as the Threshold (dB). Then listen to your track again...

Your threshold is set too low which is taking all the dynamics and transients out of your track and replacing it with a wall of sound. Nothing stands out. Nothing is interesting. I always try to be helpful but if you're throwing so much of your sound away there's really not much left to comment on.

No man thats great shit, I appreciate it ten folds.
And I do use ozone your right.
- ok so next time I turn off loudness maximiser
-not sure what margin and threshold are, ive seen them...but what they do is beyond me. Will look into tom to figure this out.
- Ive never got the "clear sound" I wanted maybe this is the problem.

Again help is kickass, ive been at this a year, and haven't seeked advice till now because before the tracks were so bad there was no point.
