Rendering differently from previewing in Fruity?

I've just come across something strange whereby I've got some effects which render quite differently from how they sound when I play the track in Fruity.

I've got a swoosh sound with reverb applied and then put through Fruity Fast Dist.

Here's how it sounds in Fruity (and how I want it to sound):

But here's how it renders:

The difference is the nice crunchiness you can hear at about 18 seconds on the previewed version.

Any ideas what could be causing this and how to solve it?

I appreciate in this case I could just record that sound from Fruity and import it again, but it'd be nice to know how to fix it properly as I sometimes use the same sort of effect on synths etc.

Thanks

Like Owien said, Fruity is just weird when it comes to rendering (if I remember it correctly, I had the same problems), your best bet is to record with Edison or to use another program.

I've also noticed some of these issues with Ableton Live, I guess some DAWs just don't render properly

Hmmm, Ableton should always render properly, as should Fruity. Make sure your rendering settings are correct in terms of sample rates, dithering options etc.

I certainly don't think its a case of just "some daws don't render properly" - That would be a HUGE bug which would have been ironed immediately.

Checked all of those...

Am I right in thinking some effects render differently live from offline anyway? Like Waves Superpitch Offline - sounds PERFECT offline rendered and sounds alright when played back live, when you'd expect that without a bit of intelligence it would just sound like it was running out of CPU or missing samples when playing live.

So maybe that's the case with this: it actually renders to a lower quality live, but it's the artefacts of that low quality I happen to want in this case!

Haven't managed to get back to it yet, but when I do I'll give Edison on the master channel a go.

What are your rendering settings? Are you rendering to wave or MP3

Mp3 is a "sound changing format"

.wav encoding at a lower bit rate - is a sound changing format.

Some plugins do act differently live or not depending on their coding.

This happens to me sometimes, when your project is quite big sometimes in the end seems like the processor can't afford it and adds some unwanted distortion when you render it. One of the things i use to solve this problem is export that sound in a wav file and add it to the original project.

As others have said, apply the FX then re-insert as audio - assuming the same doesn't happen again on just the single sound. If you are applying bitcrush / downsampling via a plugin and it isn't working try rendering the sound dry then re-sampling at a lower bit rate, then re-inserting without the plugin. You will have to fuck with it a bit but you should get a similar result.

Just one other idea, is the FL master limiter on?? On the standard template it is enabled by default. This could be altering the sound, especially if it's at a peak point in the mix. I hate this thing, if you use it bin it and use PSP vintage warmer instead but not too much
