Future Fairytales [Prog Breaks]

I'd love to say something pretentious about archetypes here, but this mix comes from a descriptive phrase I used in a review, and I liked the idea so much I decided to make a little mix out of it. Lush, atmospheric, melodic breaks here (not unicorn trance, sadly), and I've mixed up new and old tracks, well known and obscure stuff. Let me know what you think.

Future Fairytales [Progressive Breaks]:

1. Amba - Enchanting
2. Ilya Mosolov - Lights Of Paradise
3. Ilya Mosolov - Spacebird
4. Mirco De Govia - Quantum Reign
5. Mike Oldfield - Far Above The Clouds (Jam & Spoon's Far Below The Bass Mix)
6. Bedrock - Forge (Fretwell Remix)
7. Joel Armstrong - Serenity
8. Shiloh - Melt
9. Snake Sedric & Khans - Circular (Fretwell Remix)
10. Lost Tribe - Angel

It downloaded at 1MB/s for me.

Yeah this is good, as per usual. I wouldn't call it a mix so much as a 'collection of tracks', because there's not really much mixing involved, is there?

I really like Quantum Reign, it was nice to hear that in a mix. The rest of the tracks were good too; melodic, chilled and not overdone.

Did you mix this using MP3s or wave files?

Any mix containing Angel cannot be bad. One of my most treasured tracks ever.

Thanks.

Actually there are six beatmatched transitions here - the one between the Mosolov tracks for over a minute, the one from Forge into Serenity for about 90 seconds and then the one into Melt is almost two minutes. So I'd say there's a decent amount of mixing. I did use a couple of simple ambient blends early on, it's true.

This actually took a lot of programming and several drafts, because almost none of these tracks work together harmonically and yet it's a melodic set. But what I really like about mixing breaks is that if the beats are properly matched, it takes very little work to make a transition seamless.

I used a combination of MP3 and WAV here. I used a program to alter the tempo of some tracks whilst keeping the pitch, and there are a few fuzzy-sounding moments that I apologise for.

I thought Angel would hook a few people's attention. Just be aware that I played around with it a fair bit on this mix.

It's actually pretty cool how this mix is about half'n'half for me - some are among the best tracks in my collection and the rest I've never heard before. Should be interesting.

All right, thoughts after first listen...

Some extremely solid tracks here, and the whole mood fit very well for my morning cup o'coffee. Spacebird was particularily nice, although it seemed to be distorting somewhat (intentional or not, I have no idea).

The whole mix is very fluid, apart from the transition from Serenity to Melt which seemed to be not just out of key but out of phrase as well. Also, Angel seems a bit "choppy" - timestretching artifacts? Still, a very enjoyable mix overall.

Thanks for listening.

I've just checked the mix into Melt and you're right- I brought it in exactly four bars too late. How I didn't notice that I don't know. I really want to fix it now.

I also understand what you mean about Angel - I had to slow it down by something like 7bpm at the start, which is exactly why I time-stretched it to keep it in key, or it would have sounded completely wrong. I think the "choppiness" is the stuttered synth lines playing at a considerably slower speed than what you're accustomed to.
