Never used a USB mic, but Samson make some pretty decent looking ones.
If you're not producing the next Miriah Carey track tbh I think most mics will do, especially if you're gonna go postal on your vox and fuck them up like they all are theses days.

Thanks heaps
Really appreciate your input on this, i just purchased the audio technica usb, it seems to be very sensitive, maybe i should have purchased a shure, i heard they have less sensitivity therefor only picking up vocal and not background noise from other band members when recording?

your DAW is no concern in Mic choice
would focus on Mic / Pre amp / converter
you can go from cheap ass USB mics (the're crap, even though the might look like a Neuman) to Shure directly on your soundcards mic pre amp /converter to VERY esotheric solutions with names like Avalon etc.
So what's the best mic? needs to be narrowed to "use, budget, expectations etc" |
BUt let's be honest it's for EDM. So long as it picks up your vocals clear and loud, that's all there is to it.
We are not speaking on BBC radio, the vocals will be hidden behind walls of compressed synths and percussion. They will usually be timestreched or autotuned, verbed to death, EQed, compressed, delayed, stereo seperated, bitcrushed, filtered, gated, the lot usually.
I think the high end mics are gorgeous, but honestly tonal balance and purity of sound really won't matter in what we produce for 99% of cases.
