[Old Trance] Trance Nostalgia (Part 3)

What's up? This is the 3rd part of the series (you can check 1 and 2 on my signature link) this is a set specifically designed for home listening, starting with progressive trance and slowly raising to some bangers.

Mix Highlights

4 Strings Take me Away is surely a track you know but this remix is a bit rare even though i think it's the best remix of the track, very driving and relaxing.

Chakra - Home is another track that doesn't need any explanation, this is the Solarstone remix who includes some breaks influence, my favourite mix of the song again.

Midway aka Ralphie B (Part of First State) - Monkey Forest. This is one of the sickest tracks to drop on a club ever, clubbers delight since 2002.

Track 8 is one of the tracks that i kept stored and was labeled as Tuuune! don't know the name, i think is from 2004-2005 period but is a choon.

The end of the set is just pure uplifting material.

Track List

1.- Hammer & Bennet - Language (Elevation Remix)
2.- James Holden - Solstice (Original Mix)
3.- 4 Strings - Take me Away (Purple Haze Remix)
4.- Perpetuous Dreamer - The Sound of Goodbye (Tribal Feel Mix)
5.- Chakra - Home (Solarstone Remix)
6.- Midway - Monkey Forest (Original Mix)
7.- Lost Tribe - Game Master (Michael Woods Remix)
8.- ID - ID
9.- First & André - Widescreen (Original Mix)
10.- Fire & Ice - Souvenir de Chine (Original Mix)
11.- Talla 2XLC - Shine (Club Mix)

Here goes:

Wow. Did not expect a track with that much power to it being the first track. The track isn't bad, it's just way out of place. Kinda shows you don't really know what a (good) DJ does, imo.

Is there any particular reason why Chakra - Home only lasts 3 mins or so, while Monkey Forest goes on for 9 mins? Finally there's something different in the mix (rather than banging supersaw trancers all the time), and it only lasts for 3 mins...

The ID track doesn't sound bad, I'll give you that; It just sounds like everything else from that period. Nothing instantly memorable about it.

The only other track I really enjoyed listening to again was Souvenir de Chine. I know it's the same old supersaw stuff, but I actually like that breakdown and the buildup to the lead/supersaw part. It should've ended this mix imo.

So yeah, all in all:
- Bad structure and flow.
- Didn't notice many errors in the technical aspect of mixing.
- Transitions "worked" for the most part...
- Props for Souvenir de Chine.
- Why did you just play 3 mins of Home

Home starts at 21:30 or so and ends at ~26, that's 4:30 almost and Monkey Forest last for 6 minutes not 9. Should i score a point on mixing here? Because is as true as this.

I was about to end with Souvenir the Chine but there were some minutes left yet so i dropped another track that i like a lot.

About the structure... first 2 tracks is typical prog stuff 130 bpm, for me this is even chill according to my tastes, in a 1 hour mix i can't introduce a 5 minutes intro and 3-4 relaxing tracks to start building the set , this is followed with higher bpm tracks (Take me away, Sound of goodbye and Home with some breaks and vocals to make a difference and Monkey Forest being quite techy, i think there is some variety of sounds...

I don't know if you meant bad structure because of this, thank you for feedback anyway i take note for future mixes

I just listened again:
Without the transitions, Home lasts from 22:20 - 25:39, where the Monkey Forest melody pops in. Out of place. It then goes on until 32:57, before I can hear the transition to Gamemaster.

"first 2 tracks is typical prog stuff 130 bpm".
I understand you can't have a "5 min intro and 3-4 relaxing tracks", but what's wrong with having at least some buildup?

Home is playing subtle since its real start but looks like it is part of Sound of Goodbye , i picked sound of goodbye just for this and vocals indeed. With the midway there is a little mashup of the 2 breakdowns but well you're right i played it maybe for quite a lot of time.

The big mistake of the 1st part of the mix i don't think is the elevation remix but the James Holden track, probably if i had inverted the order the global feeling would be better as you would feel a better progression.

Sound Cloud has been acting shady for me lately, as sometimes the download links don't work, and just clicking the play button to stream does nothing. I'm running the latest version of Firefox, so I'm sure it's not my browser.

Anyways, just downloaded Part 1, and listening now. I'm about 17 mins in, and I like what I'm hearing. Listening to this has inspired me to host one of my own mixes, I'll let you guys know when it's available.

About halfway through my ears got really tired and I zoned out the rest of the mix. It felt like I was listening to 1 song play for 30 minutes for the last 30 minutes, even though the tracks were changing.

I think that's the problem with mixing tracks that work well together, as they all start to sound the same eventually.
