Korg N1 for $300, yes or no?

Sorry for making a ton of equipment related threads going back and forth between what I want to buy lately, but I just got the opportunity to buy a Korg N1 for $300 used. I've been looking for a decent MIDI keyboard but seeing as this is a synth too I'm thinking about getting it.

Just checking to see if anyone here has experience with it and if it's worth that kind of money, or if it'd be better spent on something else.

I plan on using it more for MIDI functions than as a synthesizer. I was planning on spending around $400 on a decent 88 key keyboard anyway.

Dunno if that makes a difference at all.

It's a cheap way to get a pretty decent 88 key weighted keyboard so i'd say yes if it's in good condition.

I think there's a lot to be said for being able to sit down and play a piano without having to load up software first.

Well yeah that was my thought too. It's hammer graded, has aftertouch, velocity sensitive, weighted.. what I'd have to get otherwise is a $500 digital piano or something.

I don't really care if the piano sound is good on it, I have a Behringer plug-in that sounds amazing that I can just run through my computer. The keyboard itself sounds rather nice though

I dont know that keyboard my friend, but I would give priority how you feel it, when you play it, rather than anything else. In the end you want it to express and make better music.

If you feel comfortable and is within your budget, go for it.

Automap?

That controller is almost twice the price and has two fewer octaves than a N1, not really what I'm looking for.

A Korg N1 for $300 is a good deal (assuming good physical/operating condition) and would definitely make for a good main keyboard. I'm not sure how well it would function as a MIDI controller per se (i.e., for controlling other synths' MIDI parameters) since I'm not that familiar with its MIDI implementation and because the N1 is not really loaded with knobs/sliders, but if you want a weighted 88-key keyboard primarily for playing parts, practicing, etc. that's a good deal.

Abolutely. I definitely recommend staying away from Automap. Also, the construction on the N1 is far better than the flimsy plastic crap that Novation is making these days.
