samples: I attempted to go into this with an open mind, while hoping to channel any possible connection with the spirit of trance I once knew and loved. I still keep up with the odd trance song/artist cuz, yeah, there are some good songs jumbled up into that 'trance' category. Usually its a random tech-trance piece or prog trance but either way I'd still call myself a fan of trance. I'm especially a fan of the emerging neo-trance genre (whatever you want to call it) or melodic techno. Marrying the intense, complex drum programming of techno with the melodies reminiscent of good trance is the way to go, imo! Anyways, I was dedicated and listened to all of the nearly 30 songs on the compilation. As a Best of 2010 I figured this would provide me with one particular view of the trance scene today, whether it is incorrect, inaccurate, or biased. That being said, I was really disappointed with what I heard. Every song sounded like the previous one, making this lack of variation produce a very flat sounding mix. I really wanted to hear something more than the typical ASOT trance replicated x30.
