A Balair [Fl studio + Drum loops?!]

A Balair by TheTA

That's right...this was made in FL 9XXL. It's currently un-mastered...My idea of a dancy tune, I quite like it.

Just pulled it off my ipod as I've been listening the shit out of it and thought it was finally time to share. It was based around a tasty drumloop I found in FL8 called Bounce_128 (or something like that)

The bass saw and lead were built from an init patch on sylenth1, go me.

My one qualm is @ 3:55...I don't think the bass saw should hit there, and should be delayed for 16 bars. Curious as to what others think.

Your feedback is most welcome, whether it be the mix (download it) or the entity itself. (Hats might be a bit harsh, as it was mixed almost exclusively on my Beyers, and they seem to be a scoche dull in the highs)

And the electric Toms are there to stay, sorry Eddie, I was compelled to use the entire drumloop :P.

Kinda frustrated really.

There's some pretty decent melodic ideas in there (especially that pluck that comes in at around 2.30) but the bottom end is almost completely smothered. I think it's a monitoring issue. I seem to remember making similar comments on your tracks a while back?

Kudos for teh init patch synth programming too!

Moooooniittttoooorrrs!

(Was trying to see if mixing on just headphones was bad mmk, so maybe a monitoring issue, but maybe a soundcloud issue too, since I saw 0 dl's)

I did struggle with the drums/percs though and ended up having to reinforce the kick a little. The way in which I did it might be what's causing issues. I also hardly used any compression in anything and am waiting on the money for a decent mastering utility (and the Yamaha's)

And would you mind downloading the 320 and listening again? (SC shows 1 DL from moi) Pains me to go through all the effort and then have people comment on the stream's mix.

Soundcloud always wtfpwns my 320 mixes, and I can not only hear smothering in the lows from the stream, I can hear aliasing in the percs, both are not (as) present in the 320 for me...This is also one of the tracks I sampled on the Yamaha HS80's when I went to guitar center and it sounded awright.

Should have a more accurate mix up once I get my studio finished...Not sure when that's gonna be though...and yeah I'm really digging synth programming.

Cheers on the feedback, and I'm open to criticism on the structure/melodic content as well.

It's just got that Fruity Loops stamp all over it. Doesn't really make for enjoyable production. The ideas are cool, though.

Thank you for the listen. I do indeed find that rings true for alot of my work in FL...cool ideas, bad/mediocre production. I don't have 7+ grand in my signal chain either. (yet)

And it seems like fruity rubs it's signature blandness all over a track, and it might be inherent in it's parametric EQ and poor rendering capability. I find Cubase 5 having a clearer, sharper sound. The frequency analyzer tells me that it's render is chopped @ 15khz...

And still only 1 download on the track...(which was mine to see if it the d/l tracker was working)

A 128 stream is like what, a 40% quality reduction down from a 320 right? Maybe I just need to be outputting 16-bit 128's instead of 32-bit 320's if people don't care to d/l it...Or simply find a site to link so people don't have the option to stream. I wholeheartedly feel that commenting on a mix from a soundcloud stream is pointless.

Ah well, was a track from last february that I came back to, so I'm not too bummed

Downloaded and listened

I still think the bottom end is smothered.

But it did sound a bit better eh? :P

Probably is, and I don't doubt ya. Low-end doesn't quite stack up to my more recent stuff anyway, that is for sure. If that's what a smothered low-end sounds like I'll save it for future reference.

Thanks for your time/ears again, and hopefully I can rework this into a more competent mix down the line once I can better examine what's going on.

And don't mix solely in headphones, even if they're nice...it's bad mmk.

I've been using PC speakers for the past few months, and the mixing sounds pleasant enough to me. But I'm not the right person for criticising a mix.

The melodic content is what grabs me, but perhaps a little more variation would help fuel my interest further. For what it's worth, I've always enjoyed your melodies.

Keep improving, I'll always be listening

<3. Thank you for the compliment, and I very much appreciate your feedback Owsey.

And I do use your tunes as one of my benchmarks for that awesome flowing journey, so hopefully someday I'll be able to incorporate more of that changing intricate ebb/flow in mine. Looking forward to your next as well

The mix sounds no good, the composition is very very interesting BUT, only but there is missing a hook, I feel like there is missing a verse chorus structure. I would work on that and then, put all faders down and start again.

Even though very good work so far, there is potential in this track!!

just my personal opinion.

And thank you for both your feedback and opinions...both are much appreciated.

Hook is the bassline actually...had a lot of compliments on the 4th bar staccato'd bit.

And the verse chorus is missing...it's A, and then A again with a slightly different tail, then bridge. (Couldn't implement a good B line as of yet) Most people are used to AB => Break, AB, AB => C. So yeah it's a bit repetitious on the plucked lead and I'll look into "complicating" it down the road.

I wouldnt think it as "complicating" the lead but to add variations.
looking forward to next version!
