Documentaries or Reading.
I'm really just looking for anything in general relating to largely but not entirely EDM. I've never read any books on the topic, wether it be a history of rave culture, a DJ/producers (auto)biography, and I haven't watched any music related documentaries either. So throw em at me! What should I be checking out to help educate me on the music I have spent years loving and researching. I'm originally from a small town in the middle of Canada, as in completely removed from anything related to the birth of the scene and it's development.
I would love to read up on:
- Some DJs who've got an interesting story to tell
- and more specifically I'm wondering if there is any material relating to the role that mainstream music has played on North American culture in the last century and how it has evolved. How culture influences mainstream music, and how mainstream music influences culture and so on.
I love reading about mainstream and counter-culture critiques and ideas, and the whole idea of changing trends and how "cool" exists and functions, so bringing music into the whole picture would be very interesting...
Thanks for the help.
