CDJ 850 vs CDJ1000 mk3

So im looking at picking up some new decks soon. I currently have the cdj 200s and im looking at getting the either the 850s or the 1000s.

I do not want to spend more than 900$ per deck.. I can get both for the same price.

Which should I go for? I spin CD's but want to have the option to go digital in the future. Are the rekordbox compatibility and digital features worth it?

for your needs i would say CDJ 850, its pretty much the CDJ 1000 functionality with added USB and Recordbox support + more

I would say stick with the 200s and save the money till you decide to go digital.

Digital turns out to cost a hell of a lot more than you would think.

The Pioneer CDJ 350 and CDJ 400 are also amazing products. The 2000s and 900s are absolutely amazing but are quite pricey. I've used all of these products before and I give all of them my full endorsement. Now, I don't have a problem with the CDJ 850 per se, but for what they are, they're not not much better than the 350 or 400 at all and they certainly cost more.....

Thanks for the feedback. I would really like the larger platters to work with, but in 3 years I'm sure these decks will be outdated.

The 850s do have midi support from what I remember so I could use them as controllers.

Perhaps just making th leap to digital would be a better option?
A xone 4d would be a ton of fun!

One you go digital you will see the CDJs becoming rather useless (My observation), although they are still fun to use occasionally.

It probably depends what genre of music you play.

I like the digital vinyl/cd systems though. BUT If I had to choose a CDJ or something else, I would probably go with an Xone 4d or Kontrol S4 instead of a CDJ.

I still think the turntable/CDJ interface is the most comfortable way to mix. It's just little things like the amount of space you have around the controls when each box is just dedicated to one task.

No matter which MIDI controllers I try, nothing comes close to a full-sized pitch slider on a CDJ800/900/1000/2000.

2000 + USB = future... just gotta wait until they're standard in enough clubs.

^^ What Stu said!

Nothing beats the tactile feel of CDJs imho

The new Pioneer controller comes VERY close actually. I tried it at NAMM and it felt like I was mixing with CDJ's and a DJM.

Ill admit that is the prettiest controller ive ever seen, and I know for sure that Pioneer will get it right.

However, although I probably will go digital in the future, im a little bit stubborn with the idea of auto beat match...its probably just my problem to get over.

You don't have to use it.

Beat me to it.

As for controller vs traditional cdjs, I'll continue to use my 800mk2s for as long as they last and I'd probably replace them with the more modern equivalent (I.e., not top range 2000s but maybe 850 or 900. The larger platter, even though I'm not a scratcher, is a must).
