I think it's definitely a circumstance thing. If your aim is to eventually make music a career you experience a lot of negative emotions such as stress and depression along with the positive ones from doing something you love. As you become more successful those negative emotions slowly go away as you are constantly reassured of your awesomeness ("I LOVE YOU DEADMAU5"). So I guess after awhile you learn to embrace the lifestyle you've made for yourself. Just because a producer isn't stressed or depressed in a dark studio doesn't mean they don't like the music any less.

I think what you are referring to is a career. Once you get popular enough you have to decide "ok do i want to do this 100% for fun, or 50% fun and 50% business?" The people you described obviously chose the latter and because of this need to find a balance between what fans are pressuring you for and what you want to experiment with.

Some people call that selling out, others say it's a worthwhile price for the amazing lifestyle.

Personally, I have a wide range of tastes and if I had the choice I'd be perfectly happy with making some of the more mainstream music of my tastes along with experimenting with all the other genres i like.

Are you talking about pro's as in professional artists/musicians/producers?

Or are you talking about pro's as in professional business people that make money out of music - label owners, marketing managers etc?

I'm pretty sure that 99% of pro musicians are at least as passionate and probably more passionate than your average music fan (with exceptions of course.)

Professional business people most likely don't care for the art or product anywhere near as much as the fan does. Their passion is for making money and being successful.

This is really obvious though so I'm not sure if this is what you are getting at?

this is so wrong in so many levels. dont you think deadmaus enjoy it? what the hell how else would he put up with it? its the worst job on the planet, without a sick addiction to it, it would be impossible. "pros" are beyond love, theyre addicted, its a curse which only death can heal.

I think he means that fans are more close minded where as artists tend to listen to alot of things and do perhaps one style because thats what they are into at the moment. Given deadmu5 production, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't really listen to house at all.

yeah probably, who like that anyway? the thing is, he is probably more into music in general than 95% on this board. even to the point where he forgot to brush his teeth, thats how addicted he is.

Just check Deadmau5's favourite tunes of each year in dj mag and you'll see he actually likes House and Electro.

I can see all the producers being extremely passionate, you can know someone who literally would cut his veins to show his love for XXX genre and i can't see a dj doing this but they usually love what they do, to succeed in something you need strong motivation and a lot of effort, talent is a minor thing if you don't practice a lot.

However if we start to think about other producers... if you think of that ghost producers that produce for the top10 pop artists, how can you love that?¿ You can have a guy playing in the most underground detroit suburbs at night and working on daylight back to back with Shakira, this is ridiculous, both things can't be compatible, it's obvious that he is just for the money in that case.

Also think about Pitbull, David Guetta , Usher... whatever i can't believe they like that, you need mediocre skills to produce that but surely you must have listened other tracks and had to learn to produce, i can't see them having their own tracks on the ipod, i have my tracks on the ipod and i listen to them (until i get so tired of them) but i think even the producer of this must be embarrased of himself.

Even the ones who are "in it for the money" as you say, will still be incredibly passionate about making music, it will be what their life revolves around and I bet if asked if they enjoy their work, they will tell you they love their job more than anything.

The need/want to make money may influence the type of music they make but their passion will be there regardless.

Ethics? If someone had the chance to "sell out" and use their production skills to make great sounding music, rather than work in an office or wherever else, that's fine by me.

Plenty of people work in offices and don't absolutely love their jobs. Ethics doesn't stop them going to work. If everyone only did things they absolutely loved, a lot of things would never get done.
