Event Reviews.

Should DJ's & Promoters be prohibited from reviewing their own parties?

Discuss.

That would certainly make TA a lot duller, no?

I think part of what makes TA great is the fact that you occasionally will get a Lee Burridge or Glenn Morrison (first that came to mind) - interacting with us common folk.

TAs should not be allowed to review events

I always enjoy hearing what a Dj has to say about the party. The perspective from behind the deck - doesn't matter if they are international or local

I don't really care as much about the promoters review because every party was "off the hook/best ever". But they still often had interesting insight and still have a lot more to say than half the other reviewers.

I think the readers just need to read each review with a critical mind and consider who is writing from a bias point of view... Whether it's the djs, promoters, club owners, or ball washer/groupies/wanna be djs

Very true.

It can get over the top at times though, You often see people write, "omggggg sickest party ever, nothing will top this". Only a week later... "wowww, the was the best party ever in life!!!!"

Obviously people wouldn't mind seeing someone like Burridge popping in here to give his review, but c'mon, that's a totally different perspective.

I don't know, i'm torn...

On one hand I don't mind the dj's & promoters reviewing their own parties, I almost feel that they deserve to, simply cause of the work they've put in. But, when it goes over board like what I mentioned above, then it's pretty whack.

I guess it's just hard to give an un-biased opinion. I mean, if you worked at a restaurant and the food was just ok, would you go and tell your friends "holy shit they have the best food here, you have to come"?

I personally would say there is more of an issue in regards to Roll Calls. I'd say more often than not there is a promoter push of an individual to start that, as a means to boost exposure for the party.

Had the discussion with Del not too long ago about the concept of Event Threads acting as a Roll Call itself, giving users the opportunity to click "attending", which would add your username to a collective list. Thought it would be great to incorporate the Facebook aspect as well, giving the promoter the option to add the URL, which would link off of an embedded icon in the first post of the thread.

Maybe I just opened a whole can of worms that has nothing to do with the question at hand, but I personally see more of an issue concerning Roll Calls than the Event Reviews themselves.

I feel that everyone has valid input when it comes the the reviews, but understand where this thread is coming from.
Intangible has it right when they mention that the reader needs to be conscious of what review their reading and who is writing it. As long as the reader is able to be critical and feel comfortable to post that criticism then all posts should be ok. I just feel sometimes promoters feel they are experts on all events and it bothers me when I see this in their reviews, however this usually does spark up some good threads when people have debates over how the event went, and the attitude the the promoters brought to the review

Nothing wrong with DJs & Promoters reviewing their own parties...

Starting the roll call and review thread is.

... on a side note... review threads shouldn't begin by something like "wow what a party... too sketchy to write a full review, will continue after I wake up..."

If you're going to start a review thread, start with a fcuking review FFS.

I don't see a problem with them starting a roll call as long as its done within the 7 day time line and they update it accordingly.

You'll never see a DJ or promoter say something bad about their own event, that's for sure.
