Usually i would say go for the HTC, but this particular crapfest runs on WindowsPhone7 so i would stay as far away from it as possible unless youre the kind of person who only uses the phone to text and talk and nothing else...you know the type, the kind of people that buy the iphone. If youre like that than the HTC will serve you well, but if you expect a bit more out of your phone, go for an android device.
The Nokia C7 is actually quite good, my father and sister both upgraded to it a couple of weeks ago and are very pleased with it. Not nearly as big as some of the higher end devices, but with excellent connectivity, great video options (720p recording, xvid/divx support out of the box, plays files with up to 720p res, tv out...), magnificent AMOLED screen with multitouch...
If i wasnt dead set on buying a phone with a ful qwertz keyboard and android (because there are playstation and dreamcast emulators available for it!) i would be very happy with the C7. Not to mention all nokias come with free lifetime voice guided navigation.
And if youre a bit of a geek, it can also do this

Unfortunately I'm stuck on Tmobile and they don't have the Nokia.
Okay, so the HTC sucks. Good to know, since I've heard good things about them as a brand before.
Well as long as youre buying a HTC running on Android OS youre OK, but the opinion on the WP7 OS is quite poor.
The G2 is great. Ifs basically a twin of the HTC Desire Z, just without the HTCs own Sense user interface. Just pure android. As far as i know people are quite pleased with it, the only problem possibly being the Z hinge. Its a bit iffy and loose on some phone straight out of the box, so try it out in the store before you buy it. This is actually the phone that im going to buy (the Desire Z, i like the Sense UI) once my provider gets restocked, because these phones are selling like crazy over here.

A slight add on. Due to todays announcement of the deal between Microsoft and Nokia that nokias will now run on the WindowsPhone/ platform, i can no longer recommend a nokia. Ive been a nokia costumer since 1998 (and my father for even longer than that) but the nokia i currently own, will be without a doubt my last one until this nonsense with WP7 stops.
From now on, nothing but Android based devices. They may not all be great, but at least they are not running on a crippled platform (WP7 & iOS)

G2 is great. One of the fastest smartphones on the market (especially if you overclock it). The hinge is only really an issue if you use the phone upside-down (aka on your back).
comes out 2/23, on monday though is the biggest mobile conference in the world. Loads of new phones are going to get announced so i'd sit tight for a few weeks if you can.
