Time is the key, to success, by finding contacts and creating relationships in the circle.
there's no one given way to making it out there
but one thing often found is that big name djs started out with residencies, yet that's not a must, but it's a +
oh and by the way ... you're never gonna strike it big as a small name ... into a major music production company, that's just lunacy...
take you're time, and don't hesitate to mix at crappy places, as long as they are real, and help you build up a resume, in which case frat parties aren't a good idea, but bars, clubs the shittiest as can be can possibly help you build something.
don't hesitate to go to raves, clubs, and places you don't even like just to talk about what you do and try to meet new people and get yourself known
off course you're gonna be in odd spots if you're open to doing any dj job , but that's the route I recommend, if you plan on going big, take the crappy jobs for the money , and on the side try to build yourself a base by doing things like raves and clubs were you'll have more feedback in the long term
