Hey bought a new laptop with win7 64bit... Nightmare for audio stuff none of my outboard works etc.
I want to roll it back to win xp 32 bit but will that leave me in a mess with drivers etc? The only back up programs on it at the moment are of course win7 ones.
What steps should I take to ensure im not in a mess?
Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Most stuff works fine with win7 x64, which products do you have that don't work?

What Raphie said. Either you're doing something wrong or the support/updates on the products you bought is crap.

USB midi adapter
SEVERAL vst's (even with changing permissions)
Ableton Live suite 8... IS NO WHERE NEAR as stable as in win xp32
Also one of my university professors that helped design the algorithms live uses told me 64 bit is not great for music be a few years yet before the 'kinks' are ironed out.

The Ableton thing doesn't suprise me actually. Performance wise they've always lagged behind. HOWEVER, it works fine here (legal Live 8 on w7 64bit).
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

I can't comment on 64-bit since I have yet to make the switch myself (and I'm ready to, just haven't researched which plug-ins I'll keep), but if I'm reading your post right, you're going to rollback an installation? Never do that.
Anyway, anything you had working prior to the OS switch will work exactly like it did on your last OS, and will probably even run smoother due to a clean installation.
