side-chain compresion

Is there anyway to link more than one parameter to the same Peak Controller?

For example, i am linking the volume control to the inverted peak on a P.C. and i am using my kick to control when the volume peaks with the inversion. However, when i try to link any other sample volume to the same P.C the already linked volume de-links.

Does this mean that i have to have a Peak cont. for every thing i want side chained?

Also on another topic, i noticed that when i play my kick over the peak inverted bass it distorts a little. normally i would assume its because of the bass freqs or amount of bass is too great. however, i have been lowering and lowering the amount of low end freqs on the bass and its not solving the problem. Also, i dont want to remove anymore bass from the kick because its taking away from its sound and i have the lowest freq all the way down already.

Any tips or solutions greatly appreciate!

Thanks,

VP

OP, what DAW u using? Maybe the manual can help you. Usually you can group channels into bussed and feed it to the compressor, and also group source channels and use it as sound input on the compressor, but usually youd want to split lows, higs, and mids into separate sidechained channels. (see multiband sidechaining)

edit: this should maybe go to production studio, but be aware the topic is shaking up some stir in that subforum (because it has all been discussed before - maybe Jay is right after all).

hey man thanks for the response.

ya i use FL. I figured it out. there is a remove conflicts button that i had to un-select. just that simple lol damn it.

however about what you said abiout splitting low, mids, highs to different side-chains.

so this means i should all those sidechained seperately eh. humm i will check that multiband topic for sure.

thanks mate

Start using the fruity limiter to side chain. Peak controller isn't true sidechain compression.

Limiter only allows side chaining of compression... It doesn't allow side chaining any other parameters (ie. cutoff frequency)

When you click Insert channel click on more, and make sure Fruity Limiter hasn't been deselected. If so, reselect it.

How it works is if you want let's say the kick on fx channel 2 (I always put it there) to compress your pad on fx channel 1, in the fx mixer have channel 2 selected, right click on the bottom of channel 1 and there should be an option to sidechain to this track. This sends the input of fx channel 2 to channel 1 without sending any 'volume' from 2 to 1.

Open up a Fruity limiter, click on the comp tab instead of the lim tab, change the sidechain from "-" to "1", and adjust the threshold to let's say -30dB and the ratio to 20:1 and play around with the other numbers until you get it sounding (and looking right).

I love the limiter because it shows you exactly how you are compressing and/or limiting that channel.

Dont use peak controller to side-chain. Try this way:

1) Put a Kick (source signal) as channel FX 1
2) Put your synth (destination) as channel FX 2
3) Open the Mixer and select channel FX 1
4) Right click on the little up arrow above the orange FX box on channel FX 2, and select Sidechain to this Track.
5) Create a fruity limiter on FX 2
6) Between "Limit" or "Comp" mode, select Comp mode.
7) To the left of that, there is a sidechain text. Drag the number until it says 1 (unless you have other channels routed to this channel).
8) Set the Thresh to around 10% and ratio to about 70%. Of course this really depends what you want to accomplish, so play around.

If you do this you will be able to side-chain multiple channels to one channel.

anyone else find it annoying that fruity limiter only lets you sidechain, whatever is on channel 1, so if you want to sidechain something else, you are out of luck.
