You'll need some sort of soundcard with 2 stereo outputs - one for your monitors and one for your headphones.

If you're using a laptop and want portability, you could go for something like the NI Audio 2: http://www.native-instruments.com/#...raktor-audio-2/

The Lexicon Alpha could be another option - it's cheaper than the Audio 2 and has got more inputs and outputs (in case they come in handy at a later date), but it's a bit bigger: http://www.lexiconpro.com/product.php?id=7
EDIT: the OP has pointed out the Alpha won't do the job - misleading documentation!

But if you're just messing about with a desktop PC at home, you could have a look for a PCI soundcard with 2 outputs you could put in your computer... I'm guessing you're on a budget so eBay could be your friend here. It'd take a little bit more effort to install though.

and where did you plan to put your headphones on those? you need a soundcard and/or preferable a dj mixer.

I think he meant that he didn't realise they'd have analogue audio inputs as well.

Yes it would work - you'd need the right cables though.

Bass boost and things like that on monitors are to compensate for room acoustics in environments that are not ideal i.e. the home studio environment.
My Yamaha MP5s have different settings like that and they are by no means crap.

That said, what you need is an external sound card and a mixer if you are working off a laptop or similar. If you had the pro version you wouldn’t have needed it but as far as I know the regular version doesn’t have any headphone sockets. Don’t see any other way around it.

Basically what Stu said.

Cheers
Nem

Yep, plus with some of the 'bedroom studio' ranges the manufacturers include an option to give the speakers a nicer curve so you can use them for home listening as well - if you're just listening to some music at home and not mixing/producing, flat monitors can sound really dull.

I don't know how flat their response is with the bass boost turned off... but for getting started I think those speakers would be fine anyway.
