Need Equipment recommendation for indoor event or wedding

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about purchasing some dj / sound equipment for indoor events, or maybe weddings. Speaker wise I think the QSC k10 + ksub would be sufficient. most of the music will be played off laptop, I havent kept up with the latest mixers. I was hoping to find something that contains an audio interface, has a good mic preamp, and the usual dj mixer controls. I saw theres allen&heath xone dx but thats a little pricy...

any suggestions on equipment or setup?

thanks

there are way too many dj software controllers to list them here.

Some of it may depend be directly dependant on what software you plan on using(some dj mixers are Traktor certified meaning you can use timecoded vinyl and cd with the mixer to control Traktor).

Your description is super vague really

It could go from using something like the Audio 2 which is dual output(headphone cue and master) 100 bucks

using a Xone 1D controller that costs 200+ bucks

2D controller+sound card 600+ bucks

this isn't really like the olden days where when you wanted equipment there were standards which almost everyone seemed to have. Everything is customizable in the way you control the software
The general conscensus seems to be to get Traktor but often that seems to be that way only because Serato appears to have lagged behind in developement.

take a look here
http://www.djdeals.com/software.htm for various types of kit.

if you want more precise answers you're going to say specifics as to what budget you have how many channels you want what software you plan on using what setup you're aiming for etc etc

The good thing about doing weddings, is that the equipment is totally up to you. The K10's are amazing and just perfect for this. You might also want to look at the JBL PRX series, which is a direct competitor of the QSC K series. You can't go wrong with either one.

As far as the actual set up, it's totally up to you. Just remember, the less equipment you carry, the better because you really wanna cut down on set up & breakdown time. And obviously, most wedding people wouldn't give a rats ass if you used two ipods and a Numark Blue Dog mixer.

I'm getting married next year, and I just went to a Bridal Show last week. I was surprised how cheap the equipment was that the DJ's use. They were advertising it as PROFESSIONAL, HIGH END, TOP OF THE LINE, and yet, they were charging rockstar prices! Those ******s make money!!! I do gotta give it up to them, because doing weddings is not just about the equipment, it's about setting up the atmosphere. That's where they earn their money.

I have a few friends who do weddings and they ditched the CDJ's & turntables all together. They said it's not worth it for weddings. Instead, they are now using all in one controllers like the S4 and the Vestax VCI w/ Serato Itch.

If I was to do weddings, I'd probably get the new Pioneer DDJ-T1 All-In-One Traktor controller, or NI's S4 along with some K10's or PRX's.

Yea, if I was going to do weddings or private parties, I'd rock the numark ns7s. All in one unit with serato itch. Super easy to easy, sounds pretty good and has a nice turntable feel.

I'm not familiar with the qsc's you mentioned, are they active speakers? Active speakers are a godsend.

Yes, the QSC's are active. They put out a lot of sound for their size.

believe it or not to dj at a wedding you don't need anything else than this mixer and a laptop, autosync with traktor and fader slam with the blue dog, play good music and people would be happy.
