Erick Morillo @ Maison Review
Now that was a good party, it exceeded my expectations and they were pretty high from past events seeing Morillo but I wasn't expecting Maison to be that good.
I got there around 11:30 going to the ticket line that was very short and the normal line being pretty long but not as long as I expected to be for an act like Morillo. Once inside the female dj was doing a pretty decent job but then played some stuff on the radio like "Barbra Streisand" killed my mood completely.. nothing a few rum and cokes couldn't fix though, she played some disco house and then would play something to kill the flow but her mixing was good and she wasn't on for too much longer.
Eric came on with a massive tune, big big build up and that signature siren to drop an incredible beat, the crowd reaction was so good and again being a maison crowd of people looking like they are there just because it's the place to be they were top notch with interaction I was very impressed with them.
Morillo just kept dropping bomb after bomb with acapellas and melodies, dancing harder than anybody in the club showing you how much this man loves the music he spins, this man is what i picture a dj to be,, it's just incredible the energy, singing every vocal like he is giving a live singing performance, I can't talk enough about his showmanship.
Basically he played a lot of tracks that would never look for myself and made me like them, his mixing was on point,he switched up genres without you even noticing keeping the same flow... one of my favourite parts of the night was when he was playing heavy house then went in to a soft soft vocal track which was beautiful.. but in to the next 3 songs it got dark like a pryda/cirez d style of tech. At the end playing his final song one of the guys on stage leaned over and accidentally hit a button and music stopped, morillo quickly spun the wheel a few times and got it right at the vocal to continue the last song.
Funktion one sound system seemed a little better than last time also which was a major +
Morillo was announced he will be back in the fall.
