Anyone used rotary faders previously??

I'm seriously considering:

http://www.bopdj.com/dj-spares/pion...-fader-kit.html

Looking for feedback from anyone who has used these previously and the pros and cons.

I tend to lean towards longer transitions for the most part but was wondering if these could accommodate 'sharper' mixes if the mood takes me.

Cheers

i played with rotarys one, not pioneer but some vestax. i totally loved it. but for instant stuff i think faders are better. you can still use the crossover for that though.

Why not try mixing using the gains?

I know it's not a completely accurate representation, but it may give you an idea of if you'll like it?

the gains are too small to be able to do it correctly, they are extremely sensetive around the 12 o clock position on pioneer. also how are you suppose to be able to cue the headphones and pre adjust levels that way?

I tracked down that kit a few years back to put on the 3000 I had at the time. It wasn't that expensive (cost me $80) and it's only 10 minute job to swap linear for rotary faders so I could always swap back easy enough, but never took them out even when I sold it 3 years later. they are much nicer to mix on on the 3000, but the curve is still very sharp, at 8 you still have almost no volume in the channels. If only they made the curve flatter it would have been a very good mixer, instead of just good.

You can still slam in almost as fast as a line fader, but not really do cuts. you still have the x-fader there if you need it.

The Denon 1500 is a little different with cue. Everything is pre fader. I tend to use the pre's along with the faders for transitions. The sensitivity level of the pre isn't as bad as some models.

I have the Vestax PMC-25 and a Urei 1620. Love both of them. Smooth for slower transitions but not ideal for fast dumps.

Rotaries are good when you are making very slow transisitions.

Perfect for Trance and House. You can always use the crossfader for more abrupt movements. Such a combination is generally the best of both worlds if you mix other types of music where rotaries cannot give you the sam impact as a fader.

Nah I understand that, but I mean it will give you some idea at least.

Cue the tune up then when you want to mix, slam to gain to 0 then move your fader up and use the gain to introduce the track.
