Cocoa plantations in third world countries are a pretty huge deal, I guess. The cocoa bean shells actually have an extremely absorbative property when it comes to lead, which many of these developing countries have in abundance with the disrepair of processiong and transportation machinery, emissions standards being the least of their concerns. It's for this reason you're not supposed to feed chocolate to infants, because of its lead-carrying properties (adults can obviously handle the miniscule amount), but what about the young children who are exposed to its processing for a living?
Mars and Hershey in fact came under scrutiny some years back for it, and our Western media was able to bully them into at least appearing as though they were concerned with human rights - the next largest chocolate congolmerate though, Nestle, is based in Switzerland, and the tradition of Swiss neutrality extends to not giving a shit about what happens to people outside of its borders. See: Holocaust.
The idea of Willy Wonka having a factory full of slave, non-white midgets was totally not just some fantastic weave.

I got interested in this kind of thing a while back. The things big corporations do to poor, naive countries is horrific and heartbreaking. War at least seems understandable in some cases (and is an overt attack other countries can see), but this stuff is inhuman.
