I'm looking for a way to defuse the smack from the kick in the sample below, It causes ear fatigue specially when using headphones, any ideas ?

You avoid a smacking kick by not choosing a smacking kick.
Do you have other samples to choose from? This one doesn't sit well with the other sounds around it. It's better to find sounds which fit together, rather than doing a whole bunch of processing to try to get the wrong sound to sit in the mix a little better.

this sample is just the intro, those sounds will be changed the kick sits well with the rest of the track though
thought about trying to layer a snare or closed hat might defuse it

I actually think the kick works with the rest of the stuff going on. Has a very Airwave kinda sound.
Either EQ the sample, or drop a LP filter on it and just shave the top end off a bit.
Be wary cause obviously this could cause the dynamics of the kick to change in such a way that it no longer punches through the rest of the mix.

think about what you like and what you don't like in this kick
the "smack" is the squash from compression, not easy to get rid of, you can tame the kick transient a bit with a gate, but that will shorten the boom as well. if you don't want it to be promiment just low pass.

What exactly is a transient of a kick? ive been wondering this for a while.
Also, I think what Lunar Phase 7 said would help; LP it and mess with it a bit to cut off the frequencies you do not like! It does have that AVB style banging club track type of kick. I think something a little more bassy and more transparent would work nicely with everything else in this intro. Maybe to much treble?

theres a certain frequency range for this "smack" sound I wanna say it's in the 200hz range, try EQing a dip around there and see if it gets any better

i think i'll try to shorten the release on this particular frequency, i use ableton and i have multiband compressor build in so this is doable, i might only apply it to the 1st minutes before other elements kicks in , cause by then its barely noticable
