u are aware that in all 3 cubase delays u can turn the sync on or off? and when off you can program to the microsecond? not sure how much more pinpointing u want?

u are aware that in all 3 cubase delays u can turn the sync on or off? and when off you can program to the millisecond? not sure how much more pinpointing u want? also realize that when a note isn't flat on the grid, neither will the delay ;D

but a logic C groove on the pluck and a 1/8th dotted works wonders all the time, I always use the cubase delays there is really nothing they can't do

Really, do u have an example? don't u have latency? isn't your groove too loose? when there is a significant shuffle in the notes, it's hard to find a delay that accelerates rather than put the breaks on, do u have an example of what you've got and what your not happy about?

How more accurate can you get than synced to BPM

30000/BPM = 1/8 note delay
30000/(half of BPM) = 1/4 note delay
30000/(double BPM) = 1/16

Just adjust the fractions of the BPM and it will always be in time.
So if your BPM is 128 and you want a 1/8 delay, 30000/128 = 234 milliseconds. That's the value you type in to get an exact, well synced delay. Play around with it.

Ha, I realise you can get everything bang on time in a classicaly quantized manner, but sometimes I want a very syncopated slightly off time groove and have been struggling to nail the exact timing of the delay. Heck I'll try the cubase ones again but when I tried they were no good - in un - synced mode the delay time options did not allow enough definition, so you went from 0 to 0.25 to 0.50, but I wanted something around 0.37 for example. I'll try again.

Heh yea, it can get a bit annoying. I've had decent luck with trial and error using the ms, but it can get frustrating.

I'm confused. Nearly every delay I've ever seen allows you to define the delay in ms.

So if you know (as fledz was getting at) that`BPM divided by 60,000 gives you the quarter note.

So 120bpm / 60,000 = 500ms.

You can work just about any interval from there.

Are you saying your delay only has stepped intervals of times or notes?

What kind of delay effect are we talking about here? Is it a heavy delay in which things are bouncing, echoing, ping-ponging all over, or is it more like selectively echoing some parts? If it's more like the latter, I usually don't even use a delay plugin and instead just make a duplicate (or 2 or 3...) track of the clip that I want echoed, offset it/them by whatever time I want the echo(es) to occur (e.g., drag the clip to the right and snap it to the appropriate beat), then I filter, pan, effect, and automate to taste. Rinse/repeat for more echoes. It's very simple, gives you a lot more control in many cases and it's very easy to nudge the echo clips around to get them just where you want them.

If you're talking about the former, I don't know offhand of a free delay plugin that can do what you're looking for, but I will add that that Sound Toys EchoBoy has incredible features for adding swing and feel (push/pull) to the delay, and that's also one of the many reasons that it ain't free or cheap.
