Dj Stigma (International Dj´s at Goliath)

I found this cd at home. I think i bought it in 2002 and it was such a rediscovery when i started to play the cd.

My first thoughts were, where is Dj Stigma these days? I tried to search him on discogs but it seems that he dissapeared after 2006.

First of all the compilation is great. Almost all the tracks are great and something to be remembered. And second, Stigmas own productions are incredible.

I tried to find some of the tracks on youtube but all i could find was.

Tracklist:
Planet Nord - Horizon
G&M project - feel the sunrise
Katana - Gemini
Dj Stigma - control (Im going to upload this one to youtube this week since i couldnt find it. And its probably one of my all time favorites)
John Askew - Vellum
Firewall Touched
Dj pure - Try me
Plastic Boy - Silver Bath
Jose Amnesia - Eternal (Pulser Remix)
Chris C & Dave Nation - controlled descent
Equinox - Puma
Mo´Hawk - Atlantic Stress
H2J - east and central
Dj Simple - complicated
Dj stigma - the answer
The scarab - dreamer
Freebase - its over

I dont know, maybe some people have this cd or some will just be happy to listen to some of this stuff. I thought most of the tracks were fantastic and i just wanted to share.

Or in other words "I have a cool story bro"

Edit: Added DJ pure - Try me. Also a great track.

got the CD myself and love a few tracks there. i think he struggled getting gigs as trance became banned in Oslo - he also ran a vinyl shop which went to hell when trance got a forbidden word in this city. Probably the reason why he went playing on Goliath in Switzerland etc., but as most of his gigs where pretty deep underground motoric prog trance (not like this CD), he probably couldnt earn enough from his djeing doing this as a career.

Man I used to dig his sets back in 2000-2001 though such bad ass drugged out trancers - i think im the only one loving his sets though as it was extremely repeatative at times . He had a radioshow a little later too but that was mostly playing classics. His hyperstate sets are amazing. Got them on minidisc of all things somewhere.

my favorit track lacks from your tracklist though, 06 . Dj Pure - Try Me, such as amazing track!!!

01 . Planet Nord - Horizon
02 . G&m Project - Feeling the Sunrise
03 . Katana - Gemini
04 . Dj Stigma - Control
05 . John Askew - Vellum
06 . Dj Pure - Try Me
07 . Firewall - Touched
08 . Plastic Boy - Silver Bath
09 . Jose Amnesia - the Eternal
10 . Chris C & Dave Nation - Controlled Descent
11 . Equinox - Puma
12 . Mo'hawk - Atlantic Stress
13 . H2j - East & Central
14 . Dj Simple - Complicated
15 . Dj Stigma - The Answer
16 . The Scarab - Dreamer
17 . Freebase - Its Over

6,10,14 are all pretty amazing hardtrance/progtrancers. i dont ever hear stuff like that anymore. and if this CD is truly recorded live im amazed by his skill.

He obviously didn't mean "banned" as in actually banned by authorities. He's referring to the huge backlash towards trance as a genre, since its popularity in Oslo waned severely after the turn of the millenium, along with the serious crackdown on bigger events such as Hyperstate by the police.

I also liked Stigma's sets back then quite a bit, as he represented the darker and edgier side of trance that I fell in love with to the fullest. He used to do a residency on friday nights on NRK Mpetre with a bunch of other guys, and I remembered that I'd always tune in and hear these completely unknown and dark tunes that were quite far removed from your usual In Trance We Trust-compilation that most people listened to back then. This is a good example, although it has more bigger tunes than usual from him:

DJ Stigma - Live On NRK Mpetre 16.03.01

Sven Väth - L'Esperanza (Paul van Dyk Remix) (Virgin)
Slipstream - Krakatoa (Subterrania)
? (White Label)
Jan Johnston - Flesh (Tilt Remix) (Perfecto)
Motorcraft - When Time Will Come (Tiesto Remix) (Various Silver)
Fred Numf vs 5 Point 0 - Globalisation (Black Hole)
Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness (Oliver Lieb Vocal Remix) (Echo)
10th Planet - Ghosts (Nebula)
Steve Porter - The Catch (Junior)
Incisions - Munene (Jinx)
Blaze feat. Palmer Brown - My Beat (Ambassador Remix) (Kickin'/Neo)
Marco Zaffarano - Weltklang (BXR)
Cyrus Cole - Freshluft (Mindworx)
The Horrorist - One Night In N.Y.C (Pascal F.E.O.S Remix) (CLR NYC)
16 C+ - Under 4 Ever (Chab Remix) (Additive)
Lemon 8 - Inner Sanctuary (Basic Beat)
Mekka - Diamondback (Angeles Mix) (Perfecto)
Jeff Laws Project - Dr. King's Dream (Trance Communications)
DJ Mind-X - Nightingale (Overdose)

i "grew up" with it - was 16 in 98 and followed the whole thing from there. started with hyperstate shutdown as sand leaper said - but most of the regulars were already fucking tired of supersaw trance. stigma didnt get many gigs in oslo after that other than the ones he arranged himself together with jamie and luis molinari - same as every other trance dj here (luis was a house dj though but a big resource to the whole EDM scene in oslo). the whole trance scene disappeared when hyperstate was closed down except for a few subcity events (where stigma also played, together with prof scuba as warmups for international djs). suddenly the entire city were listening to shitty Uk hard house or boring deep house. then came the second tiesto/ferry corsten wave over oslo and I was out lol. cool story. and since then it has been like this in oslo - to get gigs here if youre a local you need to make the party yourself. after clubbing for over a decade in this city there only a three or four events worth remembering, the rest was mostly shit. during one weekend in berlin i had more great club experience than during 3 years in oslo. shitty city. i guess i came into the game too late, cause im hearing great things about the rave/house-partys around 95. temple of love, church etc (wait that was later with sasha?).

I talked a bit with elusive some years ago, the co-host of oslonights, stigmas radioshow. He said Stigma was moving away from trance as nobody wanted it anymore. And that he couldnt make a living as a DJ so he'd probably have to quit. This was around 2003-2004 perhaps.

Its a shame really, he made some nice sets. Try getting a hold on the surviving the chills radio presentation. He played some kick ass trance!

Temple Of Love with Sasha was around 99-00 at Rockefeller, I think. I might still have a recording of the set off P3, but it isn't of very good quality, and the set itself isn't among his most memorable ones, either.
