Nord Lead 2X Local Prices

Hey all. What are the local prices like for the Rack version where you all are? The Aussie dollar is strong so it's probably better value for money to get one from overseas.

I've done some general searching on google but people tend to know their obscure little shops with good prices much better than a random on the other side of the world googling for it.

Current price here is about AUD$1100, which I could probably talk down to AUD$1000.

Please post links if you have any to websites

Roughly 940 Aussie $'s

http://www.thomann.de/gb/clavia_nor...synthesizer.htm

or just over $1000

http://www.dv247.com/keyboards-and-...d-module--58128

Those two places are usually the cheapest for Europe.

Looks like prices here are $700-1000. A quick look at the craigslists in my area didn't reveal any rack versions, but I found a great deal on the keyboard versions ($850 w/SKB case; $750 w/o):

Here's a rack version for $700 - better buy it fast at that price!

(although it only specifies US shipping)

So with shipping, it seems it's roughly the same price here. Hmmm interesting. That doesn't happen all that often.

Cryo - Cheers but if I'm buying from overseas I'd rather buy new.

My bonus was going to be stored away but looks like I might be using it up on one of these babies

I was really disappointed in the 2X, a mate had one for a few months (sold it due to disappointment also). It sounded thin and lifeless. I ended up with a Nord Rack 1 - by accident, one of those throw away ebay bids.... oh shit I won it moments! By contrast this sounds much richer, not phat by any standards, just warmer. Click my soundcloud, the bassline from the original mix of 'Diamond' is from it. But these are harder to come across these days, I did see one on ebay australia recently though, went for around 500 AUD. My advice would be buy a Virus C or B (I have a B) or if you want Nord, wait for a rack / lead 1 and get a better sound for less cash.

nord leads and viruses are completely different and have their own area of expertise in synthland. They're hard to compare really and if you've done your research about the leads then you should know what to expect. a virus would almost be the complete opposite of that.

And yes i have both a virus and a nord.

As for the lead 1 vs the lead 2 i can't say a thing. Never had the chance to compare them. The OP could also check out that discorydsp softsynth which sounds a lot like the nord 2 and patches are exchangeable between them. synth1 is also based on the Nord Lead and also has exchangeable patches, it sounds a lot sweeter (less agressive and thin) than the nord 2 itself though. Best of all synth1 is free (google it!). synth1 is the go-to synth for me. Really simple and powerful. And free

Yea I can understand the "thin" feedback about it, but I've heard far too many good sounds from it in many tracks to doubt it's brilliance. I guess it just needs a little extra FX love, and/or smart layering.

I've got Synth1, but I'm after something with a tactile feel.

I'm not sure where I would track down a Nord 1 if I wanted one.

There's nothing wrong with a thin sounding synth, if you want thin sounding sounds.

Sylenth has built it's entire reputation on it And I adore it for that.

Agree and this suits me as I like to use external effects. Heavy on-board effects saturation (basically Virus presets) is annoying. But Nords don't have any on-board effects, so I would expect full rich but dry sounds. NL2X still sounded thin to me though when compared to my Nord Rack 1.

Op's choice at the end of the day, I'd always advise playing with a demo model where possible on any synth prior to purchase.

Oh, yeah, Nords sound totally thin. That's why nobody uses them. Well, other than a few amateurs who make thin-sounding music, ya know, like FLA, Skinny Puppy NIN, ATB, Crystal Method, Delerium, and pretty much every well known trance producer since the late 90s. Someone should probably tell them that their synths suck.

Ease up there, I don't think it's particularly inaccurate to say that Nords sound a little thin, but as has been said that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Gives you more room to move when adding effects.

They are practically out of stock in Australia. I may wait for my next larger bonus and tax return in July, then get one. The waiting period right now is basically until July anyway.
