No, you are just getting old...

People like to complain...ah the drugs were better (You just had a lower tolerance), the parties were better (being really high at a bad party, you'd still say you had fun), the crowd was better (you didn't realize how goofy you look when you are young).

I'd say there's more variety and clubs with better soundsystems and promoters taking more risk.

That era died 11-12 yrs ago, RIP PLUR.

Drugs - so much better, super clean and fun.
Vibe - can't even compare
Venues - nothing now can hold 15,000 - 20,000 ppl+
Fun & Entertaiment - you would countdown the days of your next rave.
Music - much better back then.

I do miss the prime rave days we had, ppl all over North America would travel to Toronto just for a one night party ... Which many of us taken for granted.

IMO, don't dwell on the past ... Either you accept the current scene and continue your partying, enjoy current state. B/c things will only get worse or you call it quits.

Once things are done, you can not duplicate or recreate the previous scene again.

Oh Hyperactive; how I miss you so dearly ... but, life goes on.

i wouldnt go as far as saying that the scene sucks because i think its just that we havent been able to adapt to the new scene. many of us have "grown up" in the late 90s and early 00s so thats what we enjoy and will always compare everything to it. the big djs (and style of music) of that time are not so big any more.

edit: i think a good example would be how many of our parents dont like our style of music as they might prefer classic rock or oldies. does this mean our music sucks? i dont think so because its just a matter of preference. if you want to continue enjoying yourself then you should open your mind and try to accept changes. everything evolves whether we like it or not.

For me, music seems to keep getting better and better these days. There are so many good djs and producers out there fusing a wide range of elements into their music. The scene is a lot more competitive these days and you can hear that when you find a quality set / tune. Productions sound a lot sharper as time goes on. I understand that it might not be the sound that some people grew up to. Maybe these people will come to appreciate these new sounds if they just let go of these 'good old days'. It's 2011, not 2001. Times are changing.

What I've witnessed as a natural backlash to the excesses of today's club scene (which dominates due to a decided lack of alternative venues) is a return to more intimate parties that are closer in measure to Toronto's pre-rave days.

We'd need another 90s-style recession, with lax law enforcement and unused commercial space a-plenty in order for this city to experience a resurgence in the warehouse scene. Judging by the number of new downtown condo projects that are up and running, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on it.

(oh, and the "super clean and fun" stuff is still around, you just don't know where to look for it )
