correct. he is doing the right thing.
the WRONG thing to do, would be to leave the fader in the middle and use channels 1 and 2.. because then channel 1 would be 3 to 6 DB below channel 2, because of the fader dip (not sure exactly what the curve is like on that mixer, but most are a 3-6 DB drop in the center of the fade)
