Dude, there is so many websites of illegal downloads that you'll need an entire team to stop piracy. It's basically impossible...

It maybe impossible to stop it entirely but we can surely make a dent in it, and if you are producing and releasing your own music, you should be able and willing to take a hand in keeping your music off those sites. Maybe I am an optimist but I know it makes a difference for our label and artists we work with

I find it interesting that people are just willing to give it up. I can honestly say, yes it is a battle, but we have had great success keeping piracy down to almost none existent with our label. If each artist did it for themselves, plus the labels as well, it would be much harder for the pirates to get away with it, especially on the huge level they are now. I don't see the point of just throwing your hands up and saying... Oh well... I can't change it all by myself so there is nothing to be done. That is the farthest thing from the truth, if we all did our part, each artist sent out DMCA notices, each label as well, it would take a HUGE chunk out of what is out there illegally.

Seriously tho, this could be good for smaller guys like me. I only get like 2 or 3, maximum 5 pirate links to my tunes per release.

Another question. Do you think that because there are no free download links, people will buy the music?

That's because your music is very underground or very unknown.

Now think about the big names, thousands and thousands (if not millions) of people searching their tracks and trying to share with each other.

There is absolutely NO WAY you keep control of this.

Go ahead pirates, assume it is hopelessly naive to think the musicians and the labels can have some sway in this matter. I do believe the tide is turning and with people opening their eyes and gaining knowledge nothing is either hopeless or impossible. So watch out, as more and more artists and labels start taking a stand and you are responding to thousands of DMCA notices a day. A little tricky to run an illegal site when every time you turn around it is getting shut down. I believe my love of music, and the artists love of music will far outlast the greedy small minded people who put up other peoples music to make a profit on it

meh, I don't care about people pirating my music, more people enjoying the music is fine to me. If a label can be bothered to try and fight it, they can go right ahead. It's not like I make a lot of money off music anyway.
