About to buy the Rokit 8's....

Do you think this a good buy? Plan on using these with my laptop for serious music production. Anything I need to buy other than two Rokit 8's? Just plug into the headphone jack? Thanks.

Show them love & respect! To avoid pops and damage to the monitors turn em off before shutting down the laptop or unplugging the audio cables and turn em on after everythings plugged in/powered on. Pretty obvious but i've seen newbs rape monitors lol "mmmm burning woofer coil". If you haven't yet definitely get in an external soundcard. Those monitors deserve more then a standard laptop headphone jack lol.

So there is no left or right speaker correct? Just buy two of these? http://www.agiprodj.com/krk-rockit-rp6g2.html

And how would I go about plugging them into a single jack? Total noob question I know.

single jack??

don't mean to go off on you but seriously with questions as unspecific as that what kind of answer are you expecting?

what are you going to be plugging these into?
dj mixer?

the speakers themselves have rca, jack and xlr inputs.

It's all up to what your source can output.
A dj mixer will generally have dual rca at the minimum, dual jack at the better, dual xlr at it's best.

Simply plug the left and right outputs from the mixer to the appropriate inputs on the speakers.

If you have a "single" jack, do you mean a stereo jack?
What are you using in that case??? Computer sound card output?
if that be so it will be a 3.5mm stereo jack; you'll get a Y cable which is 3.5mm jack and dual rca output.

Do some research on monitors in the production forum and buy some monitors which people recommend. I know from having done research in the past that KRK's have the marketing down, but when it comes to people's opinion no one recommended them to me.

I'd do a little more reading before purchasing. It'll help you with your serious music production

Probably just the headphone jack on the laptop for now. Computer soundcard output. Maybe a external soundcard later on.

I heard from a number of people they are not bad. Any better recommendations around the same price range?

Hmmm... I'm really surprised. A number of people said they were not bad at all. I heard Skrillex used KRK's plugged into a laptop headphone jack to produce Scary Monsters. So I imagine they are pretty decent. Any recommendations?

Pop over to the production forum and use the search function as there have been a tonne of threads on monitors.

Off the top of my head I've heard the Yamaha HS80 or something along those lines are well respected. I haven't looked at monitors in quite some time though so there might be something better out.

Exactly right.

KRK market like crazy including a huge number of sponsored artists who get money and speakers for free for posing with them. In fact, I think they're the only speaker manufacturer that has their own "featured artist" endorsement page.

It was the same with M-Audio monitors and BT - they paid him a bunch of money to endorse them, and those speakers are utter turd.

It's probably DJ's who have told you they're OK. Don't get me wrong, it's not like you can't use them to listen to music, it's just that there are many, many, far batter monitors available for less money.
