Laptop/portable headphones

I need a new pair of laptop/portable headphones.

I used to have AKGK450s, but they are now broken.

I need a pair with an extremely durable wire, because in every pair of headphones I've owned, I've had major problems with the connection between the wire and the jack, likely due to having my mp3 player/phone in my pants pocket while walking around.

Also, I will be wearing these in an office environment, so the headphones have to be more subtle looking (i.e. not big DJ headphones).

I prefer to not have earplugs, but I'm not totally against them.

Again, the key is wire durability. I'm so tired of having to deal with this issue.

For the wire I know exactly what you're talking about. Get something with a jack like this:

If you're looking for a sturdy pair of headphones that don't stand out too much, I'd suggest that you give the Sennheiser HD 25-SPs a go. I've tried them out before and the sound on them is very crisp. Nice punchy tone. I own the HD 25-1s myself and I love them. From what I've heard, their headphones are known to last ages.

If you live in the downtown area, stroll by Bay Bloor Radio on Yonge and Charles and check out the headphones there. They have a great selection and the staff are quite knowledgeable.

when you buy a new pair wrap the trouble spot with duct tape right away in 5-6 layers so its not too firm but ain't soft either it might not look nice but it will last few years longer. Another vote for hd-25s though, wire lasted me 7 years before replacing.

I have the HD-25II's and the Aiaiai TMA-1's. Both are awesome. I find the TMA-1's have a little bit flatter (truer) sound and are definitely more durable. Lower price point as well.

2 year warranty, cables are strong as hell and can be replaced if they wear.

My Shures are still going strong after 5+ years.

interesting, heard a lot of hype with the TMA-1's(didnt think they would be better than hd25mk2's). im stuck because i need studio monitors as well as dj cans, and i dont think akg 702's would be suitable for djing. im probably going to either go for the hd25mk2s or the TMA-1's since you've sparked me.

^^^

I don't think you can go wrong with either tbh, both are definite winners.

I was really surprised with the TMA-1's as well, heard all the hype (used by troxler/dear/luciano) and figured I'd give them a go, without thinking they'd blow me away. But they really are on par with the HD-25's, and I think the design is top notch as well. Best part for me is they're SO durable. No plastic or hinges really, that could break at least, so no real worries. Highly recommended.

If you do buy a pair... try somewhere like the Source... and get their 3yr warranty or whatever they give.. and that way when the headphones do fall apart... you can replace them.

I will vouch for the TMA-1's... Very comfortable.. fits well, and very few moving parts.

Great for DJing as it is also more suited for EDM with an emphasis on the bass end of things
