just found out about this

wtf?

i don't think i've ever seen musicians look so bored.

i hope they are doing this to poke fun at the simpleminded tomfoolery that is tech house music

this is so far removed from what house music originally was. soul supplanted by total irony.

just what i wanted to see - a bunch of awkward german dudes in vintage suits playing basic house music rudiments on individual instruments with professional set design and lighting and filming.

this is like some switched on bach nonsense except pretentious in the extreme.

and how very pretentious as well to call an album 'you make me real'. unless by 'you' they mean the consumers who buy this garbage and allow it to continue.

barf

Fun idea, but you're right--that has got to be mind-numbing. I've never heard/of them 'til now, either, and if that's a representative sampling, the end product isn't any better, regardless of delivery. All those tools at their disposal and thats the result? Eek. Sounds more like something fun to do for 10 minutes after Honor Band practice one day.

Who cares what they call the album, though? I think you get way too caught up in packaging.

what they are going for is is just total irony. a total aesthetic pefrformance. the presentation appears is more important than the content. vintage suits, chairs, white stage, etc. it's pure objectification of the musical components, the ironic tshirt of live performances.

they are playing in nyc tonight and im tempted to stand around naked in a sandwich board and preach the end of times

as you said - fun idea. but so is macaroni shaped like gnomes.

i wonder how much more time they spend picking out french revial lampshades for the lighting on top of their piano when they travel to marseilles than composing all of the songs on their album combined.

Either way, it's a waste of energy (genuine or 'ironic'). It falls short of a noteworthy result from either.

i totally agree - that was basically my thread title.

i believe they are actually shooting for 'lackluster' as an aesthetic, almost in a deadpan though, which boggles my mind, and has no business in music, let alone dance music! this is like what weird al would be if he were a german hipster and not at all funny.

BRINGING DA HAUS AB!

ganz schick, ja?!

how long do you think until they bring in an african american man or woman from detroit to provide spoken word vocals? my guess is their next album will be 'jazz' themed and feature an ella fitzgerald like woman.

and all the RA and soul clap seth troxler kids will be like OMG so soulful and creative and classic, while they fix their fedoras.

From their MySpace:
quote:
Three young musicians have recently joined together for this exciting acoustic techno project. On the one hand Daniel Brandt and Jan Brauer, who as a duo named "Scott" produce club music with a jazz attitude. On the other hand Paul Frick, who has studied composition with Friedrich Goldmann at Berlin University of Arts (UdK). Besides pieces for orchestral instruments he also releases house music.

With prepared piano, vibraphone, drums, various percussions, brass and string instruments, rhodes, bass guitar and analogue synthesizers the trio creates textures that may bring to mind Steve Reich as well as the oldschool loop techno. Experiment meets deepness, complexity meets minimalism. The generation of the sound is mostly acoustic – even the bassdrum. Only few electronic instruments complete the sound.

Brandt Brauer Frick succeed in a thrilling synthesis of club and concert hall. On both platforms they will present themselves, getting percussive and energetic sounds out of apparently harmless classical instruments.

I caught the Steve Reich "vibe" from the first video. I wanted to say something like, "Hey, it's kind of like minimalism, except not even remotely interesting!"
