Oh young lad, you'll find that there is so much complexity, sophistication, absurdity, douchebaggery (Tiesto), complicated, stupid, interesting, amazing, and insane things about what the Trance genre is. That is, if you choose to learn and follow more. The more you listen, the more you will dig deeper into it's roots and find some ugly truths, or some enlightening experiences.
My friend, you will go on a path like most of us have. You have probably started on the modern day Trance. (2009-2011)
You will find yourself straying away from the modern era and explore the "golden age" of Trance from 1997-2002. Then you will think the golden age of Trance was actually the classic period, the best, the unmatchable times for Trance. Then you'll find yourself silly for listening to 97-02, and you'll dig deeper into the roots of Trance itself. You will discover a whole new sound, a stranger, darker, maybe even uglier (only at first), and that sound will be the real classic Trance era that you just discovered. 1990-1996. Then you'll be an elitist on this forum and shit on newcomers like you in approximately 3-4 years if you keep spending time listening to Trance.

I was just wondering if any people could please offer me some adivce on where to start as it feels as if there is just so much to the world of trance, and I feel a bit in the deep end! |
For proper advice, (although you might hate this advice at first), come here. http://www.listology.com/list/top-4...tracks-all-time
If you want my own advice... I would say get some ecstasy and experiment with the older type of Trance songs. Of course you can disregard this, but since you asked for advice I'll say it anyone. My own personal list of favorite songs to listen when rollin' balls:
Tiesto - Suburban Train (Original Mix)
Lost Tribe - Game Master
Lange - Drifting Away (Original Mix)
Megara vs DJ Lee - Hold Your Hands Up High
Rank 1 - Airwave
Jan Johnston - Flesh (Tiesto Remix)
Goldenscan - Sunrise (Tiesto Remix)
Alphazone - Flashback (Original Club Mix)
Pulser - Cloud Walking
Aria One - Willow [DJ Tiesto's Magikal Remake]
Majai - Lightwave (Airbase Dub Mix)
That's my small list but unfortunately I had discovered recently that my favorite songs were actually the songs that ruined Trance. Seriously. These songs were good but this is what opened the door for what really destroyed Trance and made it shit. So, I dunno.
You could try listening to classic (acid house) Trance.... but I doubt you would like it right now. I highly suggest getting into it, but if you can't find yourself liking classic acid house Trance, then listen to songs from the same era of the songs I posted above. (1997-2002)
I've never listened to classic acid house Trance while on ecstasy or Acid, but, I have to try it someday. And fuck all the haters who say Trance can't be appreciated while on drugs.

Wow what a video... an interesting thing to learn about these guys. I have never seen so much insightful wisdom ever in a video until I have seen this one. Usually, I've only seen interviews of Tiesto being a total douche and vouching about "being musically free." But this interview is golden, I can see the perspective from the top dogs on what they think, feel, and view on the Trance genre itself. Amazing. I am so glad my perspective matches with theirs. It's such a shame. These guys are probably the ones who jump away from the bandwagon when Trance got overexposed.
Thank you for showing me this. I really wanna download it but I can't find it anywhere or a source download.
