dealing with an imposed "vocalist" in a club

long story short,

next month I'm playing in the big commercial club in town (not that this means anything good or bad).
Some friends have started a monthly there and this will be the second one.

When there was the first night, there was a guy from the club who was "singing" over the tracks.

This dude can sing, but he's really obnoxious and says stupid things along the lines of:
-I wanna make love to you
-heaaaaaaat (chaleuuur for the french speakers)
-oh yes you are so beautifulllll
-random orgasm sounds
etc etc

yeah totally obnovioux...

Has anyone else ever seen this?

How to deal with this person? If he "sings" over my playing I feel as if I'll want to slap him hard.

This night is promoted(poorly) by a local commercial radio station and he's a guy from the radio station... I don't think we actually have a say about him being there or not ...
(regarding the promotion for the night this second one will have a much bigger promo effort(I'm handling all design and video teaser(yeah ... I'm making a teaser...), seeing as how I saw how little effort was put into getting the word out for this party (from the club and radios point of view, not the monthly organizers)).

One of these things were you compromise yourself, or make your point clear?!

What would you all do?

/rant

I'd definitely use the word bugger for starters!

If it were me I'd have a chat with the rest of your 'crew' see what they say so it's not only you that has beef with this lad.

Secondly I'd then ask the management of the club to have a word with him and tell him that they've had negative feedback about some of the things he's been saying over the mic. That way it avoids you guys taking any flack and they can take some of the heat. Unless it's the club that want him there in which case I'd just deal with it if he's part of the package. Find out who hires him or wants him there and then have a discrete word with them.

Back when I was involved in the rave scene in the late 80s early 90s this was common place.
Last time when I encountered it was in around 2003 when I played in Italy.

You can look at it two ways.

You can make his life difficult by playing a lot of vocal tracks with strong vocal content making him sound excessive and out of place.

Or you can play tracks that will give him a chance to strut his stuff and look good and make the night work better as a whole.

My recomendation would be to go for the latter, perhaps even loop sections of tracks with bass and kick sections so that he gets a platform to communicate with the crowd. A good vocalist/MC can make a crowd get into it if done well.

He obviously has connections to the club and they want him there, give him a platform to work with and it could strengthen your position in the club as he may even ask to work with you more often. Make him part of your performance.

Treat this as a learning experience, and make sure you get as much out of it as possible.

Cheers
Nem
