Hey guys,

I am looking for some good hi hat loop library's that dont have anything on the 2 and 4 beat (such as claps, snares, etc) obviously no kicks at all. I have always programmed my own hats but I want to start exploring and using hi hat patterns/loops that are different to what i'd program or even think of doing!

Can anyone give any advice about programming the percussive element of a beat. There are a lot of trance songs with really cool shaker grooves and ive tried to program shakers but they just sound like shit.

Stylus RMX is excellent for this. It comes with a bunch of hihat and shaker loops, all of which are editable.

As for sequencing them, you should spend some time listening to how a good drrummer or hand percussionist plays them, paying particular attention to open/close, accents, and groove. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Hard-quantizing them and using static velocities is guaranteed to kill any chance for a groove.

You're looking for top loops. MUB2 has some, but there should be some top loop only packs out. I saw one on Sounds to Sample. I think it was pretty cheap.

cool will check out stylus rmx. My brother is a drummer so I know what you mean and totaly agree about accents and how important they are to make a groove actualy groove and swing, especialy with 16th note stuff. I really wanna find a library that basicaly has loops that "isnt me" and that I can learn from if that makes sense, I find myself using my own technique too many times and its giving me the shits!

just sample 4 or 5 loops you like, put them in Ableton and start pushing colours...... it's boring....

A lot loops seem like they are meant to sound good on their own, but not along side other instruments. There are more loops out there that are separated now, but if you can make a song with these packed loops then good for you I say.

you can make it fun tho, reverse some sections of the loop, mute others, nudge the start point by a 16th or 2, stretch a little piece of the loop, pitch up/down another section etc etc

@OP, some of the Thomas Penton libraries have hat loops, cant remember offhand what they are called tho
