just got back home. i went downtown as soon as I heard it was being raided, and by the time I got there, the bridges were shut off, subway stations were closed. liberty plaza was inaccessible for several blocks around, blocked off by riot cops. there were convoys of dumptrucks and bulldozers going down broadway, as well as sonic weaponry deployed, police helicopters everywhere maintaining superiority over the airspace and following groups with searchlights. some of us went to foley square and others marched down from union square. we didn't know what was going on - we heard about a march on broadway and assumed they were going to union square, when in reality they were coming from there, and rallying at foley.
there was a good deal of violence, people being thrown around, gassed, hosed, etc. i heard a nyt reporter was arrested.
people are rallying at 7 am, and i can guarantee you this will create an explosion of participation for november 17th's planned events. it was already going to be something else, but now it's going to be out of control.
and all this comes after a wonderful day i spent at the camp yesterday for a transgender activist program 'trans-form the occupation', where it was revealed to me that a group of transgender female hackers created and maintain both the occupywallst.org website and twitter.
