Question English keyboard layout/Input Method questions

I was looking around in the Regional and Language Options in Windows XP and I noticed a number of different Keyboard layouts/input methods all for the same language: English! The ones I saw were:

1. US (the keyboard I use that you can get in almost any store in USA sells consumer electronics and computers)
2. United Kingdom (besides the Pound Sterling symbol, why is ANYTHING else different? I notuce that a lot of the symbols that are used in both UK and US English are in different places, compared to the US keyboard layout!)
3. United States-International (What's the difference between this and the regular US keyboard?)
4. United States-Dvorak (What does "Dvorak" mean?)

If you can help me out here, thanks!!!

"dvorak" is another standard, apart from the "qwerty" that ppl normally use

apparantly the dvorak makes you type faster, the qwerty standard was made in the era of typing machines, forcing you to write slower, so that the "arms" or whatever it is called in the typing machine didn't get stuck

Kool! How does it work and where can I get more info? What does the "dvorak" keyboard layout look like? [BEGINNING OF EDIT, 2002-08-28 (WEDNESDAY) 02:43 UTC: I looked Dvorak up and found out what it looks like, it advantages/disadvantages and places where I can buy the keyboard. It makes a lot of sense. However, the software versions don't interest me because they only can do Dvorak on WINDOWS. If I were to use DOS, BeOS, Linux, or anything else, the keyboard would show up as QWERTY but, the keys are layed out in Dvorak! That's why I need the "Hard-wired" version. [END OF EDIT]

They say that you can type much faster with this style of keyboard.
Notice all the vowels are on the left hand side of the keyboard...

I've never actually tried (much less seen) this style of keyboard.
I do know how to actually type (without looking) and I can't image typing with THAT keyboard lol

I know. When I saw this keyboard for the 1st time, I was shocked at the completely different layout! I hope they don't make a 2nd one for other English-speaking users (they did this with QWERTY in UK and US) because that'll make things too confusing!

Damn, this would be like learning to type and use a computer all over again. I'd keep having to look for the letter I want.

Think about it this way: At least when you learn how to type using this kind of keyboard, you'll feel more comfortable and you'll be typing faster than you ever did with QWERTY.

Why would it be faster? We've got the same letters, numbers and symbols, but in different places hehe, I'm a "qwerty" addict already, it would be strange to change after 15 years using this one
