Done this a few sundays back with a load of beer for company. Tune wise it's geared towards the afterhours with mixing to match (it's terrible in places) but 5 and a half hours is a long time with just me, beer and tunes for company.
Nothing particularly new which was the idea, just a load of my favourite tracks from down the years dj'ing at the sub club etc.
you know i haven't listened to too much music the last while. much more time has been spent learning to play guitar again. the reason i bring this up is that when you kinda say "fuck it" and spin whatever, there's to be much less tension in the sets, and you listen to the music more closely. at least i do. been really hard to give my full attention to listening music when i got heavily into mixing, the way it was before i was so heavily devoted. now i can't listen to anything without immediately thinking about what kind of set i can make with it. mebbe you had similar feelings when you left the decks to dust for bit.
anyway, there's alot of gems in here i like, haven't gotten through most of it yet, dunno when i will, but ill be keeping this for a long drive or a lazy session or something.

I know what you mean.
I tend to find when I set out to do a mix it turns out I never finish it. I download the tunes I want, I burn them to CD, I get the order right but as soon as I hit record I tend to freeze up and find it really difficult.
This one was a case of a sunday doing nothing else, so I got the laptop out and hit record, just picking thru mostly old records, which is definitely the way I like to do. When you've not heard a tune you like in a while it's nice to mix it again..
Since I said I was giving it up I've only bought new tunes on about 3 or 4 occasions this year, mostly I just sift thru my old records now if I'm playing any gigs, they're few and far between tho.
