Back in the day:

So I'm playing with just one synthesizer right now and I stumbled upon an idea. Back in the day, lets say a person only had one synth, which included, a sequencer, several oscilators, and the ability to route oscilators to particular filters, and then modulate them via different envelopes. Would it be a particularly good idea to get that one synthesizer to perform all the parts to a given song given the hardware constraint- meaning only having one synth? The reason why I ask is because I created a pattern using oscilator one, which is then running my bass. Then I have in oscilator two, another sound mirroring the same pattern, but being modulated differently through filter two. Then in oscilator three, instead of having it go through the same filters as oscilator one and two, I have it being sent out via the audio out, into a reverb and then back into the synth using filter three. What I'm thinking about doing is creating a song using only the one synth. I just thought it might be a good idea- what do you think?

you sound like a Nike(TM) commercial =) But I understand what your saying. Anyways, I took the liberty of doing a brief trial of what the track would sound like and this is what I came up with. Its crude but its all using one synth, and a the redrum.

The next thing, I'd like to route each oscilator out, to different fx, and then back in again.

EDIT:

I think this is the most fun there is... Love it!!

I agree. And adding a a line mixer helps with controlling the volume of each oscilator seeing how its impossible to do it inside the synth. Plus, adding fx prior to sending it back in just enhances the overall sound. And then, all you're working with is one synth but you'll/ I'll have the a thorough understanding of its capability. As opposed to just creating synth after synth after synth. Hell, you couldn't do that if you actually had hardware could you?
