AKG K271 MKII vs AKG K702/K701

Hey guys,

So I came down to these two types of headphones. Which one of these two is better for trance, techno, and dubstep altogether?

If you have suggestions on other headphones, let me know as well

Thanks!

My choice/preference would be AKG K271 MKII but I would like to see what other TA's will say/recommend for you.

Cheers,

Darek

Audio technica ath-m50. Trust me, you won't regret it. They are awesome headphones, with superb price.

depends. do you need sound isolation? the 701/702 are open back designs while the 271 are closed back design.

however - the headphones you are trying to compare are in two seperate classes.

i feel that you should actually be comparing the 271 with the 240 because the 240 is a semi-open back designed headphone used as a studio standard for 30+ years and the 271 is said to be its closedback counterpart.

i cant vouche for the 271 but i have owned the k240 for a year and [after vigorous burning in] these things are flat as a board and super transparent like you're listening to monitors intstead of headphones. even the sub bass has that realistic feeling about it that really lets you monitor down low to about 15hz quite accurately. i have found that since having these, burning them in and learning them, you can get a mixdown there about 98%, just having to check the sub frequencies and ultra highs for out loud consistency and balance mainly.

since the 271 is said to be the closed back mimics of the 240 i would recommend them (i havent heard them though), but if you dont need isolation then i would recommend the 240

just my 2cents

bullshit, bass so close to the ears is always going to be a difficult judge, and i highly doubt they are flat as a board, i know the 271s have a dip around 150hz, i dont need a chart to tell me that.

if i were u i would try to get a listen to both cans and see which you like more, i havent used the 701's. both of these type of cans are good for clarity in the mids upper mids and highs. semi open are more ideal, get the 701s if u can. and when i say 701's i mean the 702 because of the detachable cable.

and note, 271mk2 are made in china, where as the 701/2 are made in austria i believe still.

not bullshit at all my friend, have you ever tried an open back or semi-open back headphone? bass is much much more natural and nuetral in them than closed back which is usually misbalanced due to the fact that they need to cut out bass to compensate for the cabinets resonance due to them having no open air contact to naturally do it. this is why semi open and open back headphones are often more sought after from audiophiles for doing any serious mixing in headphones.

i think you misunderstood me, i know this and thats why i recommended the 702s and stated above that semi open are more ideal, if you re-read my last post.

my gripe was with the flatness, these are not "flat as a board", you'll be really hard pressed to find super flat headphones, even different models like beyerdynamics are not that super flat but whatever. dont get me wrong i like the akgs, they reveal a lot of sonic detail but i wouldnt rely on them as a final mix, and atleast test it on some speaker systems.

if OP decides to get the akg271's my advice is to switch from the leatherette pads to the velour pads right away, you'll get a slightly tigher dynamic, and your ears wont sweat a bit. i waited too long to switch mine.

closed headphones are annoying. So scratch those, between the 702 and the 701s, pretty sure they are the same with some minor superficial aesthetic changes. Not sure the price difference but the 701s are pretty standard.

the detachable cable on the 702 is a big deal.

wouldn't say a big deal. A replacement would cost you 50$. You can repair the cable your self with about 2$ worth or material. Any electrician would do it for about 15.

Much agreed. I always thought the 271s were semi-open, but apparently I'm simply blind. The 702s have a detachable cable and a different color. I believe the 701s are currently more expensive as they look sexier. I could also just repair the 701 cable myself instead of having to swap on the 702s.
