Hey all,

Working on some of my beginner tracks and in all the tutorials I've covered I've not seen lot on really warping out vocals like you might see with Shpongle or Younger Brother, and other psytrance.

There's a million examples of this range of effect I could post, but here's a good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pXEQQLSFNk Check out minutes 1:31; 3:22; 4:55 and other spots thru the song.

There's some pitch bending, and I'm not sure what else going on here. What gets me is the fluidity and speed of the morphing. This isn't just a straight forward vocal gating, delay, or running thru a simple vocoder?

What might be some good ideas on plugins and effects to run samples thru to get similar, 'loose' effects? I'm not sure how I'd get started with something similar.

Any advice is most appreciated. Thanks much

Google autotune, pitch shift, and Melodyn.

Thanks - so Melodyne is really the way to go here?

Is that the standard, or anyone else have additional input? Thanks

Eddie's suggestion is good.

Some of the parts also sound like there may be a sweeping formant (or notch?) filter.

That particular effect sounds like it was made with a talkbox. MDA had a free one, but I'm not sure if it's still available. Native Instruments' The Mouth will do it.

edit: here's the MDA talkbox: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/799

Not really related to the effects in question, but if you haven't gotten it yet you should take a look at Pauls Extreme Sound Stretch. And apart from making Justin Bieber sound pretty fucking awesome, it can also do some cool stuff to vocal tracks and synth lines etc.
