Very interesting concept, musically speaking but would love to have this bass line push more up to the front and still could add some plucks or FX with different variations of sound to make this production even more interesting/catchy ---> my $0.02 before final mastering/release, which this track need it.

Cheers,

Darek

Re: Jemuel Pavlic - Neon City [Trance]

It has a sense of running though the night about it, a decent compelling energy.

You have the right ideas, so it's really the case of mixing it well, which is always bloody hard so don't be put off.

My sincere advice, maybe not what you want to hear, is to leave this one alone for a month and not listen to it even once.

Then make a date to come back to it with fresh ears and write down everything you think needs fixing by listen ing to it a couple of times.

It's complex sonically so thats why I suggest this.

In the meantime have fun. There's a lot going on in the mid range which is fighting one another some.

Cheers for the listen

Thanks for the feedback. This is a bit of an older version and I have added a little bit to it and worked on the mastering quite a bit more. I updated the original post with the newest version.

I'll take your advice too, Richard, and leave it be for a while. I keep coming back to it and it's been driving me nuts :P I guess it's finally time to work on some new ideas for a bit.

Thanks for listening.

This.

I would even suggest not doing anything with music for a day or two, immerse yourself in something else, go to the gym, go out, study. Gotta take a break from the screen once in a while, it will do you good.

The track is nicely put together, but there is a struggle in the mid freq range. Id take some of the sounds that make up that range and solo all of them together, maybe play with the volumes and the frequencies of each of them until you feel them all have more room to breathe. Don't be afraid to turn the volume down!

Hey there,

I'm with both Darek and Richard on this one.

Also your kick lacks clear definition, it's there in the background like some sort of rumbling afterthough.

What I would look to do with this track is to bring the kick forward, make the bass push through a little more and then ensure that the high hat composition has more drive to it.

You need to sort out the wall of sound that you have in the mid range, but be careful as I kind of get what you were experiencing when you were writing this, the wall of sound cna give a false impression of a track having more percieved energy, then when you roll back on some stuf it can sound like it's lacking in your ears.

What Richard said about leaving it for a month is solid advice, you are too intimate with the track at the moment and you need some separation. In times like this I sometimes find that when I take a step back I think blech wtf was I thinking.

I think the balance in the mix still needs work. Pull down all the faders end then start with the kick until it hits around -8 db, then start bringing in the bass, clap, percussion and then working into acompanying basslines, stabs, pads and then your lead. Anytime you loose the initial elements in the track you have over done it.
Given the over all quality of the track you probably know this already, but it never hurts to reinforce solid principles.

Over all the track is good, it could probably get signed... but would a major take it?... I'm not sure, not strong enough in my opinion, but would still like to hear this when you have sorted out the freqs.

Thanks for sharing and keep up the excellent work.

Cheers
Nem

When doing the mix down I usually make sure that I have no compression/limiting or EQ on the master output so that you get a clear idea of the source material.

Usually I complete overhaul the mix 3 or 4 times before I'm satisfied enough to do any mastering, but I tweaked a few instruments, including EQs, and didn't readjust the mix because I think I was too lazy to fix the volume modulations. And then I forgot to do it later.
