I was wonderin. how is the mk2 different from the m3d?
i hear the m3d is the best but its damn expensive. and the mk2 is around 100 bucks cheaper. so can anyone tell me if its worth the extra 100? (each) or if I should just get the mk2.

The differences are :
M3D has cartridge holder
M3D has clickless pitch (quartzlock is activated via the quartz reset knob)
M3D has hingeless dustcover
M3D has up to date circuitry
M3D comes with special slipmat

Personally I don't find it worth the extra cost. I have absolutely no problem with the click in the pitch slider. But many people do. So if you're one of those guys, go for the m3d.
Also the price difference is not as high in all shops. Some have both models in a 30$ difference range. Once I even saw them for the same price in a local store...

Sure.
The pitch control on the MKIIs have a lock mechanism so that the slider 'clicks' and locks into place at a 0% difference rate(the default position of the slide...the middle, if you will)
Some people find this annoying and interfering, especially when you need precision around that area( .5 +/- difference or any small miniscule number around the middle of the slide control). THe M3Ds got rid of this, and the pitch control slides freely without locking @ 0. Think of it like this...with Winamp drag the window around your desktop except the corners. Free flying right? Now drag it NEAR a corner, and notice how it locks neatly into that corner. The pitch control on the MKIIs are exactly like that.
Anything else?

M3D has clickless pitch (quartzlock is activated via the quartz reset knob) <-- This is very handy.. I hated the Click on the MK2's it made beat matching tedious in the early days.

I just start off at +1.5% to avoid the centre click.

Non hinged dust covers would annoy me I think. I always leave mine on due to lack of space and quite a dusty environment.

I'd go for the mkIIs.

It pisses me off no end.
I don't understand how NOT having the click would piss someone off though.

Soooo, like I said, some people like it, some don't. It's a matter of personal preference, so there's no real use for us keeping discussing about it.

Same thing for the hingeless dustcovers. If you don't like the hinges, it takes no sweat to remove them from the mk2. You don't even have to... If you take the dustcover out of the hinges, and then just put it on top of the TT's, they'll still be placed perfectly. I alway do it that way (when spinning I take them off, when done, I just place it on he TT).

Sorry you misunderstood me.
It pisses me off that I DON'T have hinges. (I have Mk3's)
