I have a pair of monitors on the way, Yamaha HS80m's. I've never set up a pair of monitors before and am unsure what I'll need.

They have 1/4'' jacks.

I've been using my sound card which has 3.5mm jacks, but it does have native ASIO mode (Soundblaster Fatality Pro), and has worked fine for me so far without latency.

The card has several 3.5mm line out jacks.

* Line Out 4 jack Connects to the Rear Left and Rear Right inputs on powered analog speakers or an A/V receiver.
* Line Out 3 jack Connects to the Front Center and Subwoofer inputs on powered analog speakers or an A/V receiver.
* Line Out 2 jack Connects to the Side Left and Side Right inputs on powered analog speakers or an A/V receiver.
* Line Out 1 jack Connects to the Front Left and Front Right inputs on powered analog speakers or an A/V receiver. Also connects to stereo headphones with a 3.50 mm (1/8-inch) plug.

Up till now I've just been using my hi-fi and headphones from the stereo jack. How would I connect these puppies? Utilize two of the line out jacks in some fashion, or just the single stereo jack from a single connecting 1/4''->3.5mm splitter cable of some sort? No clue what to do. The monitors have 1'4'' connections and they're self powered so I don't need an amp.

Thanks for any input.

You need a soundcard. This is a nice one:

I own the same studio monitors as you and have owned the echo audiofire soundcard. Trust me, they work amazingly well.

Would this Mackie Blackjack do the job? I've read good things about it.

Also, Would the new card work for general desktop use/pc gaming, or should I also keep the old one installed for entertainment use?

Mackie is turd for audio interfaces

Saffire is a bit more expensive, but it is the way to go...
