what ar the street beggars like where you live?

Just came back from Mexico and it struck how different its there versus hre. In Mexico I saw children and old women and old men. A few disabled too. Never a teen or an able bodied adults.

Hhere its pretty much the opposite, mostly able-bodied adults and teens and mostly male. And religious people too on tv.

Here they're probably 80-90% black and like 99% male, most I would guess are at least 50, and they hang out outside of pharmacies and/or anywhere that sells liquor or beer.

I've also seen some scam artists posing as broke/homeless people though. A guy rode by me on a bike and said he had no money for gas to get home (about 30 min away) and that his car was at this gas station around the corner. I told him I wasn't going to give him any money and he pulled out the "come on man I'm an Iraq vet man and I'm having a really hard time at home" but I still wouldn't give him anything.

Like a couple months later I ran into the same guy, and he gave me the exact same story. Such a scumbag. A friend of mine has encountered him near his house too. Gave him the same story as well.

I see this same guy once a month at a busy intersection close to my house. Holds a sign saying he's a homeless vet with wife and 2 kids. Problem is he is wearing brand new clothes and brand new Air Jordans every time. He is clean shaven and looks like he works out. Not skinny and cracked out looking at all. Total fucking scam artist. I bet he drives a BMW away from his "home intersection" lol.

Gyppos, young, approaching cars at red lights. Or old, 80+ women that can barely move and need a buck.

They're getting smarter though. Now a days, they just randomly stop you on the street with the words "may I ask you something" then continue to pull some story about love, life, happiness + sum moneh.

I often give something to old women.

The beggars in Dublin used to hang out where you'd buy tickets for the DART because the machines only took cash or change.

The LUAS ticket stations were even worse because they're right downtown. They'd catch you on your way up to the machines when they knew you had cash/change, so you couldn't just say "sorry I don't have any."

Question: In your country, do beggars help you park and ask to watch your car while you're away?

They're quite common (and hated) here in Brazil, and they even think of it as a profession (we call them "flanelinhas" - something like "flannelies" because of the piece of cloth they usually carry around with them). Of course, it's illegal and it can be thought of as "extortion" depending on how pushy they are (trust me, some get downright offended if you don't give them money because "they're working"), but given the amount of problems we need to sort out, I can't see our government tackling this issue any time soon.

We have a few interesting ones here...

One of them we call "Hollywood" because he claims he'll get you into movies if you give him change. He also threatens you with a banana by saying "watch out, it's loaded"

Another favorite of mine is this dude who dresses up as Spider-Man and attempts to climb a Foot Locker store.
